Sebastian Maniscalco might not have a coveted Saturday Night Live hosting gig under his belt, but he's arguably achieved something even cooler: a hilarious and seemingly accurate impression on the legendary show. The comedian, known for his energetic stage presence and observational humor, has responded to Marcello Hernandez's recent SNL parody with nothing but praise, calling the sketch a flattering tribute.
Sebastian Maniscalco STUNNED by SNL Impression! Yo...
In a sneak peek of his upcoming appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show (set to air December 2nd), Maniscalco gushed about Hernandez's performance. "He did a great job. I was very flattered that they did that," he said. And get this – Hernandez even invited Maniscalco to make a cameo! "He actually called me on Thursday before the show, said, ‘Do you want to come in and do a cameo at the end of it?’ I couldn’t do it because I was performing in Palm Springs, but I thought this kid did a fantastic job.” The "Bookie" actor made it clear that the impersonation was "absolutely all in love," which is always good to hear.
Even though he's yet to host the show himself, Maniscalco playfully hinted that Barrymore, a proud member of the Five-Timers Club, could potentially give him a boost. "I’m here today to kind of petition — and maybe you could help me," he quipped, adding with a touch of mock exasperation, "You’re taking all the spots!" A little playful competition never hurt anyone, right?
Maniscalco doubled down on his positive reaction in an interview with Complex, which coincided with the release of his new Hulu special, "It Ain’t Right." He even managed to crack a joke about the impression. “The first thing I noticed: Do they think I’m that gray? I thought the gray hair was a little excessive.” He then added that the SNL clip has actually garnered *more* attention than any video he's personally been involved in. Talk about a backhanded compliment! He jokingly suggested that "If we could just have people keep imitating me, I think it’ll be fine,” while adding, with a wink, that “the problem is if I’m in it.” I suspect he's just being humble.
The now-viral SNL sketch, which aired on November 15th, stars Glen Powell as a groom-to-be whose bachelor party is thrown into comedic disarray when he invites an old friend, who just so happens to be the world-famous Sebastian Maniscalco. "You gotta be kidding me," Maniscalco commented on his initial repost of the skit, which perfectly captures the sentiment of seeing yourself hilariously (and perhaps a little exaggeratedly) portrayed on such a prominent stage.
For those of you craving more SNL goodness, the show is currently on its holiday break. But fear not, it's scheduled to return for a three-week run in December, kicking things off this Saturday. Let's see who they'll be poking fun at next!
