Now in its seventeenth year, the Rojales Christmas Market has become a cornerstone of the municipality's festive celebrations. It draws locals from the Vega Baja, as well as coastal visitors and holidaymakers all eager to experience an authentic Spanish Christmas. Expect festive lights, artisan crafts, culinary delights, live music, and a whole host of family-friendly activities. It's a proper Christmas bonanza!

The market officially opens on Friday evening with the traditional inauguration ceremony, which is always well-attended. The lighting of the town's Christmas lights follows, marking the official start of the Christmas season around here. This year, the opening will feature a live performance by “GREEN Arte • Danza • Vida,” a group that blends dance and visual art, right in the heart of the action.

Once the ceremony wraps up, the market stalls will swing open, showcasing handcrafted products, festive decorations, seasonal gifts, and locally sourced goodies. The Carnicerías Andreu gastronomic area will also be ready, serving up regional specialties and all those comforting Christmas flavors that we all crave this time of year. To keep the energy up, a DJ session will run throughout the evening, inviting visitors to explore the market until late.

Saturday promises a schedule jam-packed with creative and Christmas-themed workshops. Artists from the "Cuevas del Rodeo," the town's renowned artisan and cultural hub, will lead the sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn traditional crafts, create your own seasonal decorations, and connect with the local artisans who contribute so much to Rojales's unique cultural identity.

A definite highlight is the giant paella tasting – a staple of local festivals and always a huge hit. Seriously, who can resist a massive paella? The afternoon will also feature a festive "pasacalles" parade (a street parade), winding its way through the market streets. It's a vibrant spectacle that encourages everyone to join in the fun.

Sunday, the final day, is all about family fun. Children's workshops and games will be held throughout the day, designed to keep the little ones entertained and engaged with seasonal crafts. The Christmas sweets competition is another popular event. Home bakers and enthusiasts can showcase their best festive creations, with public tasting and judging to follow. I've seen some seriously impressive desserts in past years, so come prepared to be amazed!

Live performances continue with the Municipal Dance School adding to the cultural program. The gastronomic area will stay open, and there's one last DJ session. So, if you are looking for a chance to sample more local cuisine and soak up the festive ambiance before the market closes on Sunday evening, this is your last chance.

The XVII Christmas Market promises a delightful blend of culture, food, music, and family entertainment spread over three days. It has firmly cemented its place as a must-visit Christmas event on the Costa Blanca. With its combination of artisan craft stalls, community spirit, and delicious food, it's a wonderful way to embrace the holiday season.
