Hold onto your hats, Dickens fans! The Artful Dodger is making a comeback, and this time, he's bringing even more mischief, mayhem, and medical marvels (yes, really) to our screens. Disney+ has just announced that the second season of its Australian historical heist series, "The Artful Dodger," will be hitting both Disney+ and Hulu on February 10, 2026. Mark your calendars, folks!
'Artful Dodger' REBORN! Disney+ SHOCKS Fans With 2...
For those unfamiliar, the series reimagines characters inspired by Charles Dickens' classic, "Oliver Twist," transporting them to the penal colony of Port Victory, Australia. Season one was a surprisingly delightful blend of historical drama, medical procedural (Dodger’s a surgeon, you see), and good old-fashioned heist capers. This time around, it sounds like they're cranking up the intensity.
We've even gotten a sneak peek! Disney+ has released a series of first-look images, and they hint at a season filled with more peril and intrigue than ever before. One image in particular caught my eye: a glimpse of Luke Bracey as the new character, Inspector Henry Boxer. He looks every bit the formidable lawman who's got Dodger square in his sights.
The main players are all back. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, whom many will recognize from "The Queen's Gambit," returns as the titular Dr. Jack Dawkins, our Artful Dodger. David Thewlis, the master of portraying quirky characters, is back as the scheming Norbert Fagin. And Maia Mitchell reprises her role as the headstrong Lady Belle Fox, whose ambitions in medicine continue to defy expectations. A love triangle brewing between Dodger, Belle, and the new Inspector? Sounds like classic drama to me! There are several new faces joining the regular cast to look forward to as well.
The official synopsis promises a rollercoaster of a season. Dodger's facing the gallows, hunted by Inspector Boxer, and risking everything if he even glimpses Lady Belle. Meanwhile, Belle's determined to make her mark in medicine, Fagin's dragging Dodger into a high-stakes heist, and – wait for it – there's a killer on the loose! It seems the stakes are significantly higher in this second outing.
Kylie Watson-Wheeler, a bigwig at Disney Australia and New Zealand, sounds genuinely excited about the show's return. "We’re excited our fan-favourite Aussie original is back for a second season," she said. "It has more romance, adventure and razor-sharp wit, plus several new faces. The show’s return is a testament to its local and international success and the high-calibre talent involved." It's always encouraging to hear enthusiasm from the top; it suggests the creative team had the resources and support to really deliver.
Filmed in Sydney, Australia, and co-produced with Sony Pictures Television-owned Curio Pictures, Season 2 promises an explosive season of new characters and locations. Consider my interest piqued. February 2026 can't come soon enough! I'm personally looking forward to seeing how they weave the historical setting with the more fantastical elements of the story. It's a tricky balance, but when done right, it can be pure magic.
