Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold: What Happens Next Will SHOCK You!
Current Affairs 02 December 2025

Samsung is about to shake things up in the foldable phone market, and it’s doing it with a bang. Next week, the tech giant is launching its first-ever trifold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, in its home turf of South Korea. It's a calculated move, likely designed to gauge consumer reaction and iron out any kinks before unleashing it on the rest of the world. Smart play, Samsung.

Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold: What Happens Next Will...

"The Galaxy Z TriFold embodies Samsung Electronics' craftsmanship and represents a new step forward in foldable smartphones," declared Lim Seong-taek, Head of Sales for Samsung Electronics Korea, at a press event this week. I have to admit, "craftsmanship" is a bit of a loaded term, but the specs do sound impressive. Lim touted the device's dual-folding design, highlighting the balance between portability and a large-screen experience. The goal, apparently, is a more versatile mobile experience suited for a variety of lifestyles.

Okay, let's get into the nitty-gritty. When folded, the Z TriFold sports a 6.5-inch cover display, making it resemble a standard smartphone. But unfold it, and boom! You get a 10-inch screen. That's practically a tablet. What's really impressive is the slim profile – just 3.9 millimeters when unfolded and 12.9 millimeters when folded. That kind of engineering is definitely something to admire.

Under the hood, the Z TriFold is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy. In terms of durability, Samsung went with an inward-folding structure, which should help protect the display. Plus, the phone is designed to alert users to any detected abnormalities with vibrations and alarms. It's good to see them prioritizing device integrity with this kind of complex design.

Now, for the price. The Z TriFold will come exclusively with 512GB of storage and will cost 3.59 million won, which is roughly $2,438. Ouch. That's Samsung's most expensive Galaxy series smartphone to date, but interestingly, it's still more affordable than Huawei’s Mate XTs Ultimate Design. It shows you just how competitive this space is, despite the high price tags.

According to Lim, Samsung worked hard to keep the price as low as possible, even with rising component costs. They definitely wanted to create a buzz, it seems. South Korea gets the device first on December 12th. Following that, releases are planned for China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and other markets. No specific dates yet, unfortunately.

Kang Min-seok, Head of Smartphone Product Planning, explained that release schedules depend on market conditions, consumer adoption rates, and the responsiveness of distribution partners. So, if you're in the US and itching to get your hands on one, cross your fingers that Samsung sees a strong demand. Early reports suggest a limited initial shipment of around 3,000 units in South Korea, so expect availability to be tight at first globally as well. It’s going to be interesting to watch how this unfolds.
