At the heart of Kumho Petrochemical's strategy is the adoption of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies within its energy business. This innovative approach aims to capture carbon dioxide emissions and transform them into valuable resources. The company is also actively promoting recycling programs and waste-to-resource conversion initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Key affiliates, including Kumho P&B Chemicals, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, and Kumho Polychem, are aligned with this overarching goal, embedding sustainable practices into their respective business models.

Kumho Petrochemical's commitment extends beyond simply reducing emissions. The company is actively working to minimize environmental pollution and improve resource efficiency across its operations. A key component of this effort is expanding its participation in the global Zero Waste to Landfill certification program, a rigorous assessment of a company's commitment to resource circulation and waste reduction.

The company's plant in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, serves as a prime example of this commitment. The facility recently renewed its gold certification in the Zero Waste to Landfill program, highlighting its success in recycling combustion residues from power plant boilers. Furthermore, Kumho Petrochemical's proactive approach to addressing uncertainties surrounding nanomaterial assessment and mitigating carcinogenicity concerns has been recognized with the prestigious Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award.

In July, Kumho Petrochemical took a significant step towards a circular economy by installing new CCUS facilities. This system selectively captures carbon dioxide from exhaust gases and converts it into useful chemical materials, including those used in dry ice production, food and beverage carbonation, welding and cutting, and wastewater treatment. The company anticipates that this initiative will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also create added value and lower operational costs.

Kumho P&B Chemicals is also investing heavily in upgrading its production lines to enhance environmental monitoring capabilities. The company has installed heat monitoring systems in flare stacks at its two plants in Yeosu, enabling immediate response to potential emergencies. These investments, coupled with IoT-based monitoring systems at its logistics center in Gwangyang, demonstrate Kumho Petrochemical's unwavering commitment to a greener future. The company's multifaceted approach signals a significant shift towards sustainable practices within the petrochemical industry.
