They also made sure to thank him for his contributions, highlighting his role as captain and his "great commitment" to the club. It's a classy move, acknowledging that he was more than just a hired gun.

Statistically, Lingard had a decent run in Seoul. He bagged six goals and three assists in 26 matches last year, and followed that up with 10 goals and four assists in 34 matches this year. Those aren't earth-shattering numbers, but they’re respectable, especially considering the pressure he was under. And you can't deny he helped raise the profile of FC Seoul and the K League 1 in general. His presence undoubtedly drew more eyes to the league, which is a win in itself.

As for FC Seoul, they finished sixth in the K League 1 this past season, a slight dip from their fourth-place finish in 2024. Will Lingard's departure impact their performance next season?
