Mojacar has officially kicked off its 2025 Christmas season, and let me tell you, it's going to be a big one! Record crowds flocked to the town recently to witness the dazzling lights being switched on and to get a sneak peek at the jam-packed festive programme planned for the next month. It's always a special time of year here in Spain, but Mojacar seems to be taking things to a whole new level this year.

The official count is in: over 7,000 people turned out for the launch day. That's pretty impressive for a town like Mojacar. I can only imagine the atmosphere! Apparently, the day was designed to be an unforgettable experience, and judging by the photos I've seen, they certainly achieved that goal. The town looked absolutely stunning, bathed in Christmas cheer.

The light switch-on itself wasn't the only draw, though. The Mojacar Municipal Music Band, under the baton of conductor Miguel Ángel Miranda, warmed up the crowds with a Disney concert. Now, I'm a sucker for a good Disney tune, so I can only imagine how well that went down. The report says the performance was met with "enthusiastic applause," which I bet is an understatement.

So, what else is on the agenda? Well, the Christmas Market in Mojácar Pueblo opens on December 20th – always a great place to pick up some unique gifts and soak up the Christmas spirit. There's also the Christmas Flamenco Zambomba on December 21st, which sounds deeply moving and festive, and the "Chanqueños pa Belén" Zambomba on December 27th, which apparently is a must-see spectacle. And for the kids (and the young at heart), the Disney Character Days of Mojacar are set to be a hit, with Mickey, Goofy, and the gang making appearances throughout the municipality.

Of course, no Christmas celebration is complete without the traditional Children’s New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31st, followed by the Three Kings Parade on January 5th. Both are family favorites here, and the Three Kings Parade, in particular, is something truly special to witness. It's a tradition that really captures the magic of Christmas, especially for the little ones.

Adding to the festivities, Mojacar has planned a whole host of additional activities, workshops, concerts, and surprises, all stretching right through to January 6th. With such an extensive programme, it's no wonder Mojacar is solidifying its reputation as one of Andalucia’s most enchanting Christmas destinations. It seems like they've really pulled out all the stops this year!

Mayor Francisco García seems pretty pleased with the turnout and the plans for the season. "We have experienced a truly magical day," he said. "Each year we surpass ourselves, and each year Mojacar shines brighter." He even described Mojacar as a "Ferrero Rocher Village," which, let's be honest, is a pretty apt description! All that's left to say is Merry Christmas, and may Mojacar truly shine this year!
