Car flies, driver walks away. Honestly, you couldn't write this stuff. Credit: Viral X video
In a scene ripped straight from an action movie – or perhaps a particularly vivid dream – a Romanian driver has somehow managed to survive launching his Mercedes into the air, effectively clearing a bus and at least two other cars. And the kicker? He reportedly dusted himself off and walked away with what appear to be no life-threatening injuries. I mean, seriously? The video, which has gone viral faster than the latest cat meme, shows the car achieving what can only be described as temporary flight before coming back to earth (with a rather abrupt thud, I might add).
Look, I've seen a lot in my years as a journalist, but this one definitely takes the cake. It begs the question: what on earth (or in the air) was going on? While the full details remain sketchy, the sheer improbability of the driver’s survival is nothing short of miraculous. It's the kind of story that makes you question the laws of physics, and maybe double-check your own driving habits.
Believe it or not, this isn't the first time a vehicle has decided to embrace its inner bird, and with surprisingly positive outcomes, too. It's almost starting to feel like a weird trend.
Remember that time back in March 2023 in Belgium? Professional footballer Sofian Kiyine survived after his Mercedes-AMG flew 44 meters, smashing through the roof of a sports hall at nearly 200 km/h. Sure, he broke a few bones, but he lived! Then there was the Suzuki Swift in Poland in April 2020. It soared 64 meters over an embankment, took out a tree, and landed in a cemetery. The 41-year-old driver walked away with minor injuries. And let’s not forget the silver Citroën van in Swindon, UK, back in September 2018, that became airborne after hitting a curb, performing a "Dukes of Hazzard"-style jump. All occupants survived.
Maybe car manufacturers are secretly adding "flight mode" as a hidden feature. Okay, probably not. But seriously, these incidents make you wonder if there's some kind of guardian angel assigned specifically to daredevil drivers. Whatever the reason, we’re certainly glad the Romanian motorist is okay. Drive safe, people. And maybe keep your wheels on the ground.
