Trump & Zelensky Meet! Putin's SHOCKING Call Revealed! What Happens Next?!
Current Affairs 28 December 2025

Miami is playing host to some seriously high-stakes diplomacy today, folks. Fresh off an hour-plus phone call with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The air is thick with anticipation, especially given the swirling rumors and recent developments on the ground in Ukraine.

Trump & Zelensky Meet! Putin's SHOCKING Call Revea...

Trump himself took to Truth Social to describe his conversation with Putin as "very productive." On the Russian side, Putin's aide, Yury Ushakov, chimed in, noting that the two leaders seemingly "hold broadly similar views." Now, what exactly that means is anyone's guess at this point. But the Kremlin has made it abundantly clear they're not fans of a simple ceasefire, arguing it would just prolong the conflict. Zelensky's previously touted 20-point proposal? Apparently "radically different" from what Moscow and the US have been discussing. It's a complex web, to say the least.

And the timing of this meeting couldn't be more crucial. Zelensky is currently navigating a minefield of corruption scandals back home. We're talking about vote-rigging schemes, bribery in parliament, and even a reported $100 million kickback scheme allegedly involving one of his close associates, Timur Mindich. These scandals, according to reports, have weakened Zelensky’s hand considerably and may have made him more open to a US-brokered peace deal. It's a lot of pressure on one man.

Interestingly, whispers from the Washington Post in December suggest that the Mindich scandal actually *forced* Zelensky's hand, pushing him towards negotiations on a US-backed peace plan that he and his European allies had previously given the cold shoulder to. Could this be the turning point we've been waiting for? Possibly, but with so many moving parts, it's hard to say definitively.

Meanwhile, on the military front, the Russian Defense Ministry is claiming its forces have liberated several settlements, including the strategically important town of Gulaypole. Putin himself congratulated the military, saying control over Gulaypole opens "good prospects" for further advances. They've also completed clearing operations in Dmitrov (Mirnograd), a key town in the Donetsk People's Republic. These battlefield realities are undoubtedly shaping the discussions happening in Miami right now.

Trump has been characteristically bombastic about the potential security agreement coming out of these talks, promising it "will be strong." He also emphasized the heavy involvement of European nations, adding somewhat vaguely, "I think you can say there is nobody bad, they all wanna get it done." Let's hope so, for everyone's sake.

For those of us not in the room, we'll have to rely on scraps of information. Zelensky is reportedly holding a press conference "via a WhatsApp group chat" after the meeting, according to Ukrainian reporter Katerina Lisunova. A bit unconventional, but hey, in this day and age, anything goes, right? We'll be keeping our ears to the ground (and eyes glued to our WhatsApp) for any updates.

Zelensky's delegation includes some heavy hitters, including Kiev’s top negotiator, Rustem Umerov, Economy Minister Aleksey Sobolev, and Chief of the General Staff, Major General Andrey Gnatov. It's clear that this is a serious effort. Whether it will be successful remains to be seen. But one thing's for sure: the world is watching.
