HBO Max Saved?! Warner Bros. & Canal+ Announce Shocking Deal!
Movies & TV Series 31 December 2025

Big news in the streaming wars! Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Canal+ have just announced a major international agreement, one that's being called a "milestone" by both sides. What does it all mean for us? Well, for one, it means HBO Max is about to get a whole lot more accessible in Europe.

HBO Max Saved?! Warner Bros. & Canal+ Announce Sho...

The deal, a multi-year, multi-territory affair, basically strengthens the existing relationship between WBD and Canal+. Critically, it's expanding HBO Max's reach through Canal+'s existing infrastructure. This means viewers in Belgium and Austria will soon be able to access HBO Max through their Canal+ subscriptions. Pretty neat, right?

But it's not just about adding two new countries. The agreement also extends HBO Max's availability on Canal+ in several other key Eastern European markets, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. WBD has been making a serious push into Europe over the last year, and this partnership with Canal+ is a massive step in that direction. I mean, we're talking about some significant market penetration here.

And let's not forget the UK! While not directly part of this specific Canal+ deal, HBO Max is slated to launch there soon, a market that was previously locked down due to an existing agreement with Sky. It seems WBD is clearing the decks to make HBO Max a truly global player.

Beyond HBO Max, the agreement also covers a broad range of content. This includes renewing several WBD channels and continuing the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. films on Canal+. Think "Dune: Part Two" hitting Canal+ about six months after its theatrical run in France. That's a pretty sweet deal for French movie buffs.

Interestingly, the agreement also extends to Africa. Approximately a dozen WBD channels have been renewed across African territories on MultiChoice Group, which, as some of you may know, was recently acquired by Canal+. This includes CNN International and Cartoon Network, with exclusive rights for South Africa and non-exclusive rights for other regions. It's a multifaceted deal, to say the least.

Of course, all this is happening against a backdrop of ongoing media consolidation rumors. Canal+ already has distribution agreements with Netflix, and the speculation about Netflix potentially acquiring WBD is still swirling. If that were to happen, Canal+'s pivotal role could become even more significant, potentially giving Netflix control over two of the world's leading streaming platforms. The media landscape is constantly shifting, and this agreement between WBD and Canal+ is just the latest piece of the puzzle. It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.
