Babylon 5 Revival: JMS Just Dropped a Bombshell! What Happens Next?
Gaming News 02 January 2026

Babylon 5 fans, don't get your hopes up just yet. While the ink isn't even dry on the Warner Bros.-Netflix deal, the prospect of a revival of the beloved sci-fi series is already a hot topic. But creator J. Michael Straczynski himself is urging caution, and for good reason.

Babylon 5 Revival: JMS Just Dropped a Bombshell! W...

The news of Netflix potentially absorbing Warner Bros. has understandably sparked optimism among the B5 faithful. The idea of the streaming giant's seemingly limitless resources being poured into a continuation of the saga is certainly appealing. After all, who *wouldn't* want to see more of Sheridan, Delenn, and the rest of the crew navigating the complex political landscape of the Babylon 5 station? I know I would!

However, Straczynski, ever the pragmatist, is bringing everyone back down to Earth. He's reminding us that Warner Bros. still holds the keys to the Babylon 5 universe and that any revival, whether on Netflix or elsewhere, faces significant logistical and financial hurdles. And he's right. Just because Netflix *could* revive the show doesn't mean they *will*.

"The studio is contractually required to notify me if anything is put forward on B5," Straczynski stated in a tweet, a message that's now echoing around the internet. "No such call has come." That's pretty definitive. No call, no plans currently in motion. It's a simple as that.

Even if Netflix does take over the reins, Babylon 5 wouldn't be the only sci-fi property vying for attention. Warner Bros. owns a treasure trove of genre classics, from "V" and "Flash Gordon" to more recent hits like "Gravity" and even the "Blade Runner" franchise. Babylon 5 would have to compete for resources and attention internally, and that's a tough battle to win, especially considering the other IPs. I mean, let's be honest, "Blade Runner" is a *huge* name.

Straczynski summed it up best: a Babylon 5 continuation remains "a possibility, but that's all until the dust settles after the acquisition by Netflix." He’s right, it’s going to take time to see how the pieces fall. And what about that reboot that was previously discussed? Straczynski confirmed that the CW script is officially dead in the water. He cited network reluctance to pick up shows from other networks, a general slowdown in Hollywood buying, and the perception that a CW show wouldn't appeal to streamers as the main culprits. It was a perfect storm of bad timing and industry realities.

So, while the dream of more Babylon 5 is still alive, temper your expectations. We'll have to wait and see what Netflix does with its new toy. Until then, maybe it's time for a rewatch of the original series. It still holds up, trust me.
