The stage is set, folks! We're heading for a truly epic finale at the PDC World Championship. Luke Littler and Gian van Veen have battled their way through the competition, and now they'll face off for the ultimate prize. It's going to be a nail-biter, that's for sure.
Littler vs. Van Veen: Darts Final SHOCKER! Will a ...
Littler, seemingly unstoppable, bulldozed his way into his third consecutive final. He absolutely dismantled Ryan Searle, the 20th seed, with a dominant 6-1 victory. His average was a staggering 105.35. It's hard to believe he's only 18. The kid's got ice in his veins.
Van Veen, on the other hand, had a slightly tougher time of it, but still managed to overcome two-time champion Gary Anderson in a 6-3 showdown. Both players were on fire, averaging just shy of 103. That's some serious dart throwing. The atmosphere in Ally Pally must have been electric.
Littler's undefeated streak before a final at Alexandra Palace continues. Can you believe he's 11-0 in major ranking tournament semi-finals? He's in some pretty elite company, joining the ranks of Phil Taylor, Dennis Priestley, and Anderson as the only players to reach three consecutive PDC World Championship finals. And he has a chance to do what only three others have done: win PDC world titles in successive years, a feat last seen when Anderson did it in 2015 and 2016. Impressive stuff.
"I'm very happy with tonight - the doubles, the finishing, the high-scoring," Littler told BBC Radio 5 Live, sounding almost nonchalant despite the magnitude of his achievement. "It could have been a bit better but I'm happy to make it three consecutive finals [at the World Championship]. I missed a few doubles but I'm happy with 50-odd percent or whatever it was. Hopefully we can do a bit more tomorrow." That's the attitude of a champion right there.
Searle, making his first semi-final appearance, put up a fight, taking the opening set. He even weathered a 10-dart finish and a 105 average from Littler. But the teenager's consistency and high scoring just proved too much. Littler nailed 10 180s, including a 110 checkout to win a fourth set averaging, yes, 110. Amazing.
The crowd was, thankfully, a bit more respectful than in the previous round. No jeers this time, just good-natured ribbing when he narrowly missed a nine-darter. He even lost the leg after his second nine-darter attempt when Searle pulled off a miraculous 170 maximum checkout. Talk about adding insult to injury!
And get this: Littler's incredible run at Alexandra Palace will catapult him to eighth in the world rankings. Not bad for an 18-year-old, eh?
Van Veen, meanwhile, joins Raymond van Barneveld and Michael van Gerwen as only the third Dutchman to reach the PDC World Championship final. Big shoes to fill, indeed!
While Littler seemed to cruise, Van Veen faced a more emotional challenge against Anderson, a player he clearly idolizes. Anderson even snagged the first set with a 104 average. But Van Veen responded with a blistering 10-darter to start the second set, showing he could definitely handle the pressure. This final is going to be one for the ages!
