Alright, movie buffs, buckle up! Netflix just dropped the trailer for "The Rip," and it looks like we're in for a wild ride. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Hollywood's favorite dynamic duo, are back together again in this Crime thriller directed by Joe Carnahan. This isn't some fluffy rom-com, folks; this is gritty, tense, and promises to keep you guessing until the very end. The film is slated to hit the streaming service on January 16th, so mark your calendars.
Affleck & Damon's 'The Rip': Betrayal, Bullets, an...
The premise is classic Crime thriller material, and honestly, who doesn't love a good heist gone wrong? A group of Miami PD stumble upon a cool $20 million just sitting in a derelict stash house. Sounds like a dream, right? Wrong. It quickly spirals into a nightmare of paranoia, betrayal, and cops turning on each other faster than you can say "dirty money." As if that wasn't enough, they've got outside forces closing in, all vying for a piece of the action. Suddenly, figuring out who to trust becomes a matter of life and death.
The trailer itself is a masterclass in building tension. We see Affleck and Damon, looking suitably stressed and sleep-deprived, trying to count this massive pile of cash without attracting unwanted attention. You can practically feel the sweat dripping off their foreheads as they realize they're in way over their heads. What I particularly liked was the quick glimpses of the supporting cast – Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, and Sasha Calle, among others – each looking like they have their own agenda. Carnahan is known for his action-packed, character-driven stories, and this definitely seems to be in his wheelhouse.
Written and directed by Carnahan, with a story co-created by Michael McGrale, "The Rip" also boasts a seriously impressive supporting cast. Think Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and even Kyle Chandler. That's a lot of talent packed into one film, and I'm really curious to see how all these characters intersect and clash. Honestly, even if the plot wasn't intriguing, this cast alone would be enough to get me to tune in. Let's be real, though, Affleck and Damon together? That's always worth the price of admission (or, you know, the Netflix subscription fee).
"The Rip" is also noteworthy because it's the first collaboration between Netflix and Artists Equity, Affleck and Damon's production company. So, they're not just starring in it; they're producing it, too, alongside Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon. Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe are executive producers for Artists Equity. It's always interesting to see actors take more control over their projects, and I'm hoping this collaboration between Affleck, Damon, and Netflix delivers something truly special. January 16th can't come soon enough!
