The Last of Us: Fans OUTRAGED by Season 3 Recast News!

HBO's critically acclaimed series, "The Last of Us," is gearing up for its third season, and while anticipation is high, there's a bit of casting news that's rippling through the fandom. It appears the role of Manny, the WLF soldier who played a significant part in the game's narrative (and season two), is being recast. According to Nexuspointnews, Danny Ramirez, who portrayed Manny in season two, won't be returning.

The Last of Us: Fans OUTRAGED by Season 3 Recast N...

The reason? Good old scheduling conflicts. Ramirez, who many also know as Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has a pretty packed dance card. He's reportedly set to appear in the highly anticipated "Avengers: Doomsday," and he's also landed a role in the upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic, "Samo Lives." So, while it's a bummer he won't be back as Manny, you can't really blame the guy for seizing those opportunities.

When Ramirez was first cast, the showrunners described Manny as this complex character – a loyal soldier with a seemingly sunny disposition masking a lot of inner turmoil. They emphasized his fear of letting his friends down. Honestly, Ramirez did a solid job capturing that duality, so it'll be interesting to see who they bring in to fill his shoes. The search is on, and I'm sure fans are already speculating about potential replacements.

Season two saw a whole influx of new faces joining the "Last of Us" universe, bringing to life some pretty pivotal characters from the game's sequel. We had Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Ariela Barer as Mel, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Young Mazino as Jesse. Of course, we also saw the return of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, the heart and soul of the story. And let's not forget Catherine O'Hara and Isabela Merced as Gail and Dina! It's a stellar cast, and they really nailed the complexities of the source material.

It's not just Ramirez, though. Last year, Neil Druckmann, who was instrumental in bringing "The Last of Us" to our screens, announced he'd be stepping back from his heavy involvement as co-showrunner, director, writer, and producer after season two. He's shifting his focus back to Naughty Dog and their gaming projects, including "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet." Now, before you panic, he's emphasized he'll still be involved in the adaptation at a "very high level," ensuring it stays true to the source material. That's reassuring, because his guiding hand is definitely needed to maintain the quality and authenticity that fans have come to expect. So, while we'll miss Ramirez as Manny, and Druckmann's day-to-day involvement, the show seems to be in steady hands for season three.
