Asus is throwing its hat into the extended reality ring, and they're doing it in true Republic of Gamers style. At CES 2026, the tech giant unveiled the ROG Xreal R1, a sleek pair of XR glasses co-developed with Xreal. These aren’t your grandpa’s clunky VR headsets; these glasses are designed for streamlined, on-the-go immersion, primarily through video streaming via a simple USB-C connection. Think Netflix and chill, but on a massive virtual screen only you can see. Pretty cool, right?
Asus ROG Gaming Glasses: A Whole New Reality?!
The ROG Xreal R1 is packing some serious heat under the hood. We're talking 240Hz micro-OLED 1080p lenses, a speed that should make for incredibly smooth visuals, crucial for reducing eye strain during extended use. And for those who want to connect their favorite devices, there’s the ROG Control Dock, which offers HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity. Asus is touting seamless compatibility with their ROG Ally handheld gaming device, meaning portable gaming on a truly epic scale.
According to Asus, the lenses create a 57-degree field of view, essentially projecting a massive 171-inch virtual screen at a distance of four virtual meters. They’re also claiming 95% coverage of the focused viewing area. That's a seriously immersive experience. But it's the little touches that really set these apart. These glasses have built-in Bose speakers for crisp audio, and even electrochromic technology that allows the lenses to automatically (or manually, if you prefer) adjust their tint to suit different lighting conditions. And, of course, staying true to ROG form, there's RGB lighting. Because what's gaming without a little flair?
The weight is surprisingly light at only 91 grams, which is important, because nobody wants to walk around with bricks strapped to their face. Now, the big question: price. Unfortunately, Asus is keeping that under wraps for now. However, they are aiming for a launch in the first half of 2026, so hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to find out how much this tech will set us back.
The ROG Xreal R1 is just one piece of the puzzle from Asus at CES 2026. ROG gaming laptop fans have a lot to look forward to this year, including a major update to the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo. This beast of a machine is getting dual 16-inch, 120Hz OLED HDR displays and a detachable wireless keyboard. The XR glasses are certainly interesting, but as a long time PC gamer, the laptop refresh is equally compelling news. Asus is clearly making a big push to innovate across all gaming categories, and I, for one, am excited to see what they do next.
