Splitgate Dev Responds to 'Dead Game' Claims: You Won't Believe What He Said!
Gaming News 07 January 2026

Okay, so *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded* is finally here, but it seems the launch hasn't been quite the triumphant return some were hoping for. Player numbers on Steam are apparently causing a bit of a stir, prompting the developers at 1047 Games to step in and reassure fans that all is well – or at least, better than the numbers might suggest.

Splitgate Dev Responds to 'Dead Game' Claims: You ...

For those just catching up, *Splitgate* was *the* free-to-play shooter darling, blending the fast-paced action of *Halo* with the mind-bending portal mechanics of, well, *Portal*. Then came the somewhat surprising announcement last year: *Splitgate 2* was in the works. Then came even more surprising news: *Splitgate 2* was being scrapped, and the original *Splitgate* would be getting a major overhaul instead. Layoffs were involved, adding another layer of complexity to the situation. It was a bold move, and the promise of "big, sweeping changes" definitely raised expectations. Fast forward to December 17th, and *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded* launched on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

But here's where things get interesting. The Steam charts, those often-dreaded barometers of success, are apparently showing less-than-stellar player counts. And 1047 Games isn't taking it lying down. They took to X (formerly Twitter, of course) to declare, "Steam Charts don't measure fun." It's a sentiment that resonates, honestly. I mean, just because a game isn't topping the charts doesn't automatically mean it's a bad game. There are tons of factors at play – marketing, timing, even just plain luck.

The issue, as 1047 points out, is that the relaunch is also on consoles and the Epic Games Store. We only have transparent metrics for Steam, so it is hard to compare the numbers with the original *Splitgate 2*'s launch, which drew nearly 26,000 concurrent users on the platform. It's tough to get a complete picture of how the game is performing across all platforms, and that’s a totally valid point. The team is asking potential players to jump in and form their own opinions, stating “Arena Reloaded is free, the gameplay's the best it's ever been, and we'd love for you to jump in and form your own opinion. A lot of passionate people worked very hard on it." It's a good message and one that hopefully resonates with the community.

And look, I get it. When you put your heart and soul into something, and then see seemingly lukewarm numbers, it's gotta sting. But 1047 is emphasizing that *Arena Reloaded* isn't just a fresh coat of paint. It boasts a rebuilt progression system, new and reworked maps, and other improvements. Plus, the *Arena Royale* component is on the horizon. We actually gave the original *Splitgate 2* a solid 7/10, so there's definitely potential here. Hopefully, *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded* can find its footing and recapture the magic that made the original so popular. Time will tell, but I'm personally rooting for them.
