Art Gallery Xaló el Molí is buzzing with creativity this season, having just opened its doors to a captivating new collective exhibition, "Orgànic." This isn't your grandma's quilting bee, folks. We're talking about a sophisticated exploration of femininity, spirituality, and the natural world, all rendered through the surprisingly versatile medium of Textile art.

Xaló Exhibition: Femininity & Nature Collide! What...

The show features a powerhouse group of established Costa Blanca artists: Erica Landfors, María Muñoz, Mari Marí, Francesca Poza, Susanna García Ungo, Anna Perles, M. J. Gilabert Carrio, and Jeanne M. Connolly. What's striking is how different their individual styles are, yet they manage to create a cohesive and thought-provoking experience. It really highlights the depth and breadth of contemporary Textile art, a field that often gets unfairly pigeonholed.

You'll find a real feast for the eyes in terms of technique. Forget any preconceived notions you might have about textile art being limited to weaving. "Orgànic" showcases everything from traditional hand-weaving and intricate embroidery to vibrant fabric painting, innovative collage, and even digitally assisted processes. The sheer diversity keeps you engaged and constantly discovering new textures and approaches.

Material choices are clearly deliberate and impactful throughout the exhibition. The artists masterfully blend natural fibers like silk and wool with more modern synthetic textures, creating layered compositions that really resonate. The overall effect is one of intimacy, resilience, and a deep, palpable connection to the natural world. I particularly appreciated how they managed to evoke such strong emotional responses through the careful selection and manipulation of these materials.

Susanna García Ungo, originally from Bilbao but a Calpe resident since the mid-90s, is definitely one to watch. Her background in both Psychology and Fine Arts shines through in her work, which is characterized by a captivating emotional sensitivity and a clear conceptual depth. There's a thoughtfulness and complexity to her pieces that really draws you in. Her work really stands out, but perhaps I am partial to artists who blend the arts with other disciplines.

Another key player is Jeanne M. Connolly, whose recent participation in the VI Biennal de València – Ciutat Vella Oberta has solidified her position as a significant voice in Spain's contemporary textile-art scene. Connolly's artistic practice is wonderfully diverse, encompassing hand-weaving, embroidery, painting, and digital experimentation. Her contribution to "Orgànic" presents femininity as something fluid and constantly evolving, layered with narrative, symbolism, and deeply personal reflection. It’s powerful stuff.

If you're in the Xaló area, I highly recommend checking out "Orgànic." The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday, from 11am to 2pm. It's a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in an artistic dialogue that beautifully bridges the gap between the organic, the feminine, and the contemporary. It's well worth the visit.
