Mayor's SHOCK Order to ICE After Shooting: What Happens Next?!
Current Affairs 07 January 2026

Minneapolis is reeling after a fatal shooting involving an ICE agent, and the city's mayor is pulling no punches. The incident, which occurred Wednesday near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, resulted in the death of a 37-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, shot by an ICE agent during what DHS is calling an enforcement operation. The fallout has been immediate and explosive, with conflicting accounts swirling and accusations of misinformation flying.

Mayor's SHOCK Order to ICE After Shooting: What Ha...

According to DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, the woman was "attempting to run over our law enforcement officers" when the agent fired. But Mayor Jacob Frey, after viewing video footage of the incident, vehemently disputed that narrative. He didn't mince words: "This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying -- getting killed." Governor Tim Walz took to X, formerly Twitter, urging people not to "believe this propaganda machine," after seeing the same video. You can feel the tension, the anger, in their words.

Council member Jason Chavez described the victim as simply "an observer" who was "watching out for our immigrant neighbors." It's a stark contrast to the picture painted by DHS, which Secretary Kristi Noem characterized as an "act of domestic terrorism." Noem claimed ICE officers were "stuck in the snow" and were attacked when a woman "attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle." It's a chaotic scene to imagine, but the official version simply isn't lining up with what local officials are seeing.

Minneapolis police, who are conducting a preliminary investigation, reported that the woman was in her car, potentially blocking the road. "At some point, a federal law enforcement officer approached her on foot, and the vehicle began to drive off," they stated. "At least two shots were fired… the vehicle then crashed on the side of the roadway." Crucially, they added, "There is nothing to indicate that this woman was the target of any law enforcement investigation or activity." So, if she wasn't a target, what justifies the use of deadly force?

The FBI is now investigating, and Mayor Frey has made his position crystal clear. He told ICE to "get the f--- out" of Minneapolis. It’s a raw, emotional reaction, and speaks volumes about the level of distrust and outrage within the city. "We’ve dreaded this moment," he said. Walz promised a "full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice." The Twin Cities are currently experiencing a surge in ICE and Homeland Security Investigations agents, and this incident is only going to further inflame tensions. Whether this was a tragic mistake or something more sinister remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the relationship between Minneapolis and federal immigration authorities is now fractured, perhaps irreparably.
