2026's YA Gold Rush! These Books Have Readers Obse...
Sifting through the 2026 publisher catalogs has been nothing short of a thrill ride. Trying to narrow down the selections to just a "few" that truly sparked joy? A near impossible task! Luckily, I teamed up with some equally passionate Book Riot contributors and editors, and together we've curated a guide to some of the most eagerly awaited YA books of 2026. We're talking historical mysteries that will transport you to another time, contemporary realistic fiction that will punch you right in the feels, and vibrant comics bursting with fresh perspectives.
Consider this your official warning: your to-read list is about to explode! Below are a few of my personal picks, some straight from our blockbuster "Most Anticipated Books of 2026" guide, and a few bonus treasures I just couldn't resist sharing. The titles attributed to names belong to the Book Riot contributors I mentioned before, whose insightful picks I had to share with you all.
First up, a graphic memoir that's already making waves. Imagine being snatched from your bed at 13. This is Sofia's reality. Two strangers forcibly remove her from her room, spiriting her away to a "therapeutic wilderness camp." The worst part? Her own mother believed this drastic measure was necessary due to Sofia's perceived behavioral issues. Get ready for a powerful and deeply unsettling read.
Then there’s the story of Derrick, a Diné youth from Navajo, New Mexico. He understands that attending school on the East Coast could be his ticket to a better future. However, leaving home means leaving behind his beloved great-grandmother. As her health declines, she begs him to stay, urging him to abandon his studies. This conversation ignites a fire within Derrick, ultimately leading him to uncover and write about his great-grandmother's harrowing experiences in federal Native boarding schools. Talk about a complicated and important choice.
Here are what some of my Book Riot colleagues said about their picks:
"Every single book June Hur has written so far has captivated me, so you can imagine how excited I’ve been for her take on a historical Korean romance inspired by Pride and Prejudice. And that was before I found out this book deals with censorship and characters involved in illegal writing and transcribing of government outlawed fiction. Be still my heart!" – Rachel Brittain
"I recently inhaled the manga series adaptation of Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl so when I saw that To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is getting adapted into a graphic novel my hands immediately started doing all the gimme gimme gestures. Fans will now have the original books, a great film trilogy adaptation, and soon a graphic novel adaption. This is just all the wins for lovers of YA romance, Jenny Han, and her characters!" – Jamie Canavés
This is just a tiny taste of the incredible YA that awaits us in 2026. Seriously, don't miss the complete list of Most Anticipated Books of 2026. Trust me, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable year for reading!
