Avowed on PlayStation?! Xbox Fans Stunned by Shocking Twist!
Gaming News 09 January 2026

Well, folks, it looks like the walls are coming down, or at least softening a bit, in the console wars. Obsidian Entertainment just dropped a bit of a bomb, announcing that *Avowed*, their first-person action RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe and an Xbox Game Studios title, is officially making its way to PlayStation. Yep, you read that right.

Avowed on PlayStation?! Xbox Fans Stunned by Shock...

And it's not just a barebones port, either. The PS5 version is launching with a pretty substantial anniversary update baked right in. We're talking about highly requested features like a New Game Plus mode – always a welcome addition for those who really dig a game and want to dive back in with all their hard-earned gear. Plus, there's a Photo Mode, because who doesn't love showing off their in-game adventures these days? And get this, they're throwing in three new playable races: Aumaua, Orlan, and Dwarves. That's some serious replayability potential right there.

But wait, there's more! The update also brings a new weapon type to the table, the ability to tweak your character's appearance while you're wandering around the overworld (finally!), and a whole host of other enhancements that players have been clamoring for. Pre-orders for the PS5 version are kicking off today, so if you're a PlayStation gamer who's been eyeing *Avowed*, now's your chance to get in on the action. And for those of you who already own the game on other platforms? The anniversary update is free. Nice move, Obsidian.

*Avowed* came out nearly a year ago, and we here at [Your Publication Name] gave it a solid 7/10. We praised the immersive worldbuilding and the well-written characters, but also noted that it kind of played it safe with the fantasy adventure formula. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but it didn't exactly reinvent the wheel. Maybe this updated version, especially on a new platform, will give it a second wind.

This move is definitely indicative of a larger strategy brewing over at Xbox. They've been increasingly willing to share their first-party titles with the competition. Think about it: *Forza Horizon 5*, *Doom: The Dark Ages*, *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle*, even *Halo* are all either already on other platforms or headed there. It's a pretty significant shift from the old days of fierce platform exclusivity.

And surprisingly, this strategy seems to be paying off, at least in the short term. There was a quarter last year where Xbox published six of the ten best-selling games on PlayStation. That's a pretty staggering statistic. The top brass at Xbox have even gone on record saying that platform exclusivity is an "antiquated" concept, arguing that it's ultimately not in the best interest of the consumer. It will be interesting to see if they truly stick to this model. It may be a major sea change for the industry.
