New Kia EV2: Family's Newest Member Will SHOCK You!

Brussels, Belgium – Auto shows might be a shadow of their former glory, but they still provide a stage for manufacturers to strut their stuff. Case in point: Kia chose the 2026 Brussels Motor Show to pull the curtain back on its newest electric offering, the EV2. This compact crossover is poised to be the baby of the EV family, and from what we saw, it's packing some serious punch.

New Kia EV2: Family's Newest Member Will SHOCK You...

The EV2 is the sixth model to spring from Kia's dedicated electric platform. What immediately grabs your attention is its design. Forget the swoopy, overly-aerodynamic look that seems to plague so many EVs these days. The EV2 goes for a bolder, boxier silhouette, and frankly, it's refreshing. This squared-off stance, especially with the sporty GT-Line trim, gives it a real presence.

Up front, the split vertical headlights are a definite head-turner, almost concept-car-esque. They help the EV2 carve out its own identity in what's becoming a pretty crowded EV market. While the exterior leans into a more futuristic vibe, the interior is a bit more grounded. I was pleased to see a healthy dose of physical buttons – something I always appreciate for quick adjustments to volume and ventilation. Touchscreens are great, but sometimes you just want the tactile feel of a knob.

The dashboard is cleverly designed. Initially, it appears to be dominated by just two screens. Look closer, though, and you'll spot a discreet 5.3-inch climate control display nestled between the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen. It’s a smart way to integrate functionality without overwhelming the driver.

Despite its position as the entry-level EV, Kia hasn't skimped on features. You're getting wireless charging, 100-watt USB-C ports (finally!), a Harman Kardon sound system, over-the-air updates, and even a Pet Mode – because our furry friends deserve to travel in comfort. Rear passengers get a choice of two or three-seat configurations, which is a nice touch.

And speaking of space, despite its compact 4.06-meter length, the EV2 manages a respectable 403 liters of cargo space behind the rear seats (in the four-seat configuration, anyway; the five-seater offers a slightly smaller 362 liters). Plus, there's a handy 15-liter storage compartment under the hood – perfect for stashing those charging cables.

Underneath, the EV2 rides on the E-GMP platform, the same one that underpins many Hyundai and Kia EVs. Two battery options will be available: a 42.2 kWh base pack offering up to 317 kilometers of range (WLTP cycle) and a larger 61 kWh battery boosting that range to 448 kilometers. All versions will be front-wheel drive.

Performance varies depending on the battery size. The standard range model puts out 144 horsepower, allowing for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds. The long-range model sacrifices a bit of horsepower, clocking in at 9.5 seconds. Both versions have an electronically limited top speed of 159 km/h.

Kia plans to build the EV2 at its Žilina plant in Slovakia, alongside the EV4. Production of the standard range model is scheduled to kick off in the first quarter of the year, with the larger battery version following later in 2026. It will be interesting to see how this little guy performs in the real world – stay tuned!
