Crimson Desert Map Size SHOCKS Gamers! Bigger Than Skyrim & RDR2?!
Gaming News 09 January 2026

Alright, gamers, buckle up. Word on the street is that Pearl Abyss' upcoming open-world action-adventure, Crimson Desert, is shaping up to be absolutely massive. We're not just talking "slightly bigger than your average RPG" massive. We're talking potentially groundbreaking, "leave your GPS at home" massive.

Crimson Desert Map Size SHOCKS Gamers! Bigger Than...

And when I say massive, I mean it. According to the developers, the game's map, set on the continent of Pywel, will make Skyrim's already impressive landscapes look like a quaint suburban park. Think about that for a second. Skyrim! But that's not all – the whispers also suggest it might even outsize the behemoth that is Red Dead Redemption 2's map. Now, that's a bold claim. I remember spending countless hours just riding around in that game, discovering hidden corners and feeling genuinely lost in its world. To surpass that in size is a serious feat.

Of course, size isn't everything. We've all played games with huge empty maps that feel more like a chore to traverse than an adventure. The real question is, can Pearl Abyss fill this enormous space with engaging content, compelling storylines, and memorable characters? That's the million-dollar question, isn't it?

Interestingly, what we've seen so far in previews represents, according to the developers, only "a tiny corner of the map." A *tiny* corner! That's both exciting and a little daunting. It suggests a level of detail and exploration potential that could be truly revolutionary. But it also raises concerns about potential bloat and a lack of focus. Will the content be evenly distributed, or will we find vast stretches of empty land with little to do? Hopefully Pearl Abyss is focusing as much on world-building as they are on square mileage.

We'll have to wait and see how it all pans out. Mark your calendars, though, because Crimson Desert is currently slated for release on March 19, 2026. That's a ways off, giving Pearl Abyss plenty of time to polish and refine their vision. I, for one, am cautiously optimistic. The potential is definitely there, and if they can deliver on the promise of a truly expansive and engaging open world, Crimson Desert could be a game-changer. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Until then, I'll be keeping a close eye on any new developments. Stay tuned!
