Sonic's Dark Secret REVEALED! You Won't Believe What Happens!
Gaming News 09 January 2026

Alright, folks, prepare for a blast from the past… or maybe a cautionary tale from it. Game Informer is dusting off a Wii remote and diving headfirst into the controversial world of *Sonic and the Black Knight*. Yes, *that* game. The one where Sonic wields a sword and hangs out with King Arthur and his knights. It's happening.

Associate editor Charles Harte is spearheading this particular revisit, and he’s bringing some serious baggage – in a good way, I think? He apparently considered this game a masterpiece when he was nine years old. Now, almost two decades later, he's brave (or perhaps foolish) enough to see if his rose-tinted glasses were playing tricks on him back in the day. It's always fascinating to see how our perceptions change over time, especially when it comes to beloved childhood games.

For those who've blissfully forgotten, *Sonic and the Black Knight* hit shelves back on March 13, 2009, as the second (and final) entry in the "Sonic Storybook Series." Remember *Sonic and the Secret Rings*? Yeah, that one. The idea was to toss Sonic into well-known literary settings. This time, it was Camelot's turn to get the blue blur treatment. Sonic’s armed with Excalibur, because why not, and tasked with saving the kingdom. It certainly sounds… ambitious.

The critics weren't exactly kind back then. Reviews were, shall we say, less than enthusiastic. Game Informer itself slapped a 5/10 on it in issue 193. Ouch. It's going to be interesting to see if Charles and Marcus Stewart can find some redeeming qualities, or if they’ll just confirm what many already suspect: that this game is best left buried in the annals of gaming history. Sometimes, the things we loved as kids just don’t hold up, and that’s okay.

So, if you’re curious to see if *Sonic and the Black Knight* deserves a second chance (or just want to watch two grown men struggle with Wii motion controls), tune in to Game Informer's Twitch or YouTube channel this Friday, January 9, at 2 PM Central Time. It promises to be… a journey. And hey, if you're feeling nostalgic, you can always subscribe to Game Informer's print edition and relive more gaming memories in a slightly less pixelated format. Good luck, Charles and Marcus. You’re gonna need it.
