Happy New Year everyone – still counts, right? The tinsel's barely been packed away, and I swear I saw someone still rocking a Christmas jumper just yesterday. Anyway, welcome back to What We've Been Playing! Or, perhaps more accurately titled: What We Played Over the Holiday Season, considering the radio silence since our last update.
Time-Frozen Pirate Pete?! You Won't BELIEVE What H...
Let’s dive straight in, shall we? This week, our resident eccentric, Bertie, is apparently lost in a world of spheres (we did try to warn him about that one). Connor's gone full-on retro, channeling his inner old-school gamer with a serious RuneScape addiction. Tom reckons he's achieved some sort of transcendental gaming nirvana (we'll see about that). Dom, bless his heart, just can't quit Atlus's masterpieces. And yours truly? Well, I'm currently living my best life as a dinosaur. Roar!
For years, a friend has been relentlessly badgering me to give Old School RuneScape a whirl. I finally caved over the Christmas break, and, well, let’s just say it’s become a bit of an obsession. This morning, before even thinking about work, I was wading through a swarm of about eighty crabs for some Slayer task. Don't judge! Then, get this, I actually crafted fishcakes and fed them to a time-frozen pirate. Yes, Pirate Pete. It's that kind of game. Now, I'm facing a slight financial hiccup. I need serious gold to finish my fancy new sloop and become the scourge of the seven seas, but I'm currently broke. I guess that's just an excuse to explore some more! It has really captured me.
Dom's back with another Atlus game, and honestly, I can see why he keeps coming back. "Incredible production values, music so captivating I prolong battles just to savor the choruses, and compelling narrative hooks all converge to make this one of the best all-around packages Atlus has ever delivered," he tells me, and it's hard to argue. "Bring on Persona 6, or Persona 4 Revival, whichever arrives first." I'm with you, Dom! The wait is agonizing.
And me? I’ve already kicked off my 2026 gaming resolution (always thinking ahead, you see!) by revisiting Lego Jurassic World. I re-watched the original film and Lost World recently, and felt the urge. While Marvel Super Heroes is still my personal Lego game champion, Jurassic World has a certain charm I completely missed the first time around. Cramming multiple movie storylines into one game is quite the feat, and it strikes a great balance between giving you enough content to keep you hooked without feeling overwhelmed. Of course, smashing everything to smithereens to collect Studs is still ridiculously satisfying. But I think I've found something even better this time: stomping around as a rampaging dinosaur! It's surprisingly therapeutic. Until next time, happy gaming!
