Golden Globes SHOCKER! Is This Oscar's 'Hamnet' Spoiler?!
Movies & TV Series 12 January 2026

The champagne corks were popping at the Beverly Hills Maybourne Hotel last night, specifically on the ninth floor, as the 'Hamnet' crew celebrated their Golden Globe win for Best Motion Picture Drama. You could feel the buzz all the way down to the lobby. But the question on everyone's lips now: Will Paul Thomas Anderson, a man who knows a thing or two about cinematic drama himself, have to face off against 'Hamnet' once more at the Oscars?

Jessie Buckley, riding high after snagging the Lead Female Actor Drama award earlier in the (lengthy, let's be honest) ceremony, was clearly ready to celebrate. I heard she was spotted, not just dancing but full-on *rocking out* to Abba’s "Dancing Queen" on top of her booth cushions! Apparently, director Chloe Zhao was right there with her. A well-deserved celebration, no doubt.

Watching the Globes from afar this year, I have to say it was a mixed bag. Nikki Glaser's monologue, though, was a definite highlight. She didn't pull any punches, did she? That jab at CBS News, delivered *on CBS*… that took guts. “The award for most editing goes to CBS News. ‘CBS news, America’s newest place to ‘see BS’ news.’” Ouch! But, for the most part, it landed, a testament to her sharp wit and comedic timing. And, as a total Spinal Tap nerd, I appreciated the subtle nod to Rob Reiner. It's the little things, you know?

One thing the Golden Globes always gets right is the atmosphere. The dinner format just breeds a more relaxed and convivial vibe. It’s a far cry from the stiff formality you often see at other award shows. People actually seem to be having a good time! That said, I couldn't help but notice something a little different this year. The standing ovations were… scarce. For the most part, the audience seemed perfectly content to stay seated. Unless, of course, it was a commercial break. Then, it was a mad dash to the bar. Priorities, people!

The notable exception? Julia Roberts. When she presented the award for Best Motion Picture Comedy Or Musical, she received a genuinely *heartfelt* standing ovation. It was a stark contrast to the general… seated-ness of the evening. Maybe the audience was just saving their energy for the after-parties, or maybe they were simply exhausted after the marathon ceremony. Either way, it was a night of surprises, and now, the Oscar speculation begins!
