Rani Mukerji is back, and she's not messing around. The trailer for "Mardaani 3," the third installment in Yash Raj Films' gritty cop franchise, just dropped, and it looks like Shivani Shivaji Roy is diving headfirst into another harrowing case. Mark your calendars folks, because this one's hitting theaters January 30th.
Rani Back as Shivani Shivaji Roy! What New Horrors...
Mukerji reprises her role as the fierce and determined Shivani, and this time she's up against a particularly disturbing challenge: a series of missing girls whose disappearances have been tragically overlooked. The trailer hints at a race against time, and honestly, knowing the "Mardaani" series, we can expect plenty of suspense and some seriously intense action sequences. No doubt, Roy will go to the ends of the earth to bring these perpetrators to justice.
"Mardaani 3" boasts a solid creative team. Aayush Gupta, known for his work on "The Railway Men," penned the script, while Abhiraj Minawala takes the director's chair. Of course, Aditya Chopra is back producing, ensuring the film stays true to the franchise's signature style. This is the kind of thriller that makes you want to lock your doors and binge watch your favourite shows, but at the same time, you can't wait to see Roy exact her revenge on the bad guys.
The release of the trailer comes at a significant time for Mukerji, marking her 30th year in the film industry. Reflecting on her journey, she shared some heartfelt thoughts, emphasizing how much the craft has resonated with her. "Thirty years… When I say that out loud, it feels unreal," she admitted. "But it also tells me that if you do something that you love from the bottom of your heart, time flies and you are left hungry for more." It's easy to see the passion Mukerji still holds for acting, something that shines through in every role she takes on.
Mukerji also noted how unplanned her entry into cinema actually was, revealing, "Thirty years ago, I stepped onto a film set with no grand plan of becoming an actress. It wasn’t a dream, I chased it was something that found me." She eloquently described falling in love with acting through instinct and vulnerability. And you know what? That honesty makes her performances all the more believable, and impactful.
It's not just about the accolades for Mukerji, it seems. "Today, when I look back, I don’t count box office numbers or awards first. I count moments," she explained, highlighting the emotional experiences and quiet satisfactions that come with performing. That kind of grounded perspective is exactly what makes Mukerji so compelling to watch, not just on screen, but even in interviews. I think this new film is going to be a good one.
