This year's event, held in Pittsburgh from January 4th to the 10th, was a vibrant mix of lightning-fast gameplay, quirky commentary, and, most importantly, an overwhelming sense of community. I wasn't able to attend in person this year, unfortunately – deadlines were a killer! But even watching the livestreams, you could feel the energy radiating from the venue. Thousands of attendees packed the place, and countless others tuned in on Twitch and YouTube to witness the speedrunning spectacle.

The game selection, as always, was wonderfully diverse. We saw everything from the timeless classic Super Mario 64 to the surprisingly compelling American Truck Simulator (who knew watching someone deliver virtual cargo could be so engaging?). Highlights included a blisteringly fast run of Mario Kart World, and the incredibly stylish Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, complete with runners in fantastic French-themed cosplay. And let's not forget the sheer audacity of completing Resident Evil 2 Remake with a Guitar Hero controller! Seriously, hats off to those players.

It's easy to get caught up in the speedruns themselves, the glitches exploited, and the milliseconds shaved off records. But at its core, Games Done Quick is about so much more. Since its humble beginnings in 2010, the organization has raised nearly $60 million for various charities, including Doctors Without Borders, the Malala Fund, and the Organization for Autism Research. That's a testament to the power of gaming and the generosity of the community.

If you missed AGDQ 2026, don't despair! There are more opportunities to get involved on the horizon. Back to Black, a speedrunning event organized by the Black in a Flash community, is coming up in February. And Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ), the organization's other major annual event, will be back in July. Mark your calendars and get ready to witness some more incredible speedruns, all while supporting vital causes. These events are a reminder that gaming can be a force for good, bringing people together and making a real difference in the world. We need more of that, don't you think?
