Gamers are often portrayed as isolated figures glued to their screens, but Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) proves that stereotype wrong. Every January since 2010, this incredible event has harnessed the passion and skill of the speedrunning community to raise money for charity, and this year was no exception. Their 2026 marathon, held at the Wyndham Grand in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, just wrapped up, and the results are nothing short of astounding.
AGDQ 2026: Gamers RAISE MILLIONS to CRUSH Cancer!
According to a Reddit post from one of the organizers, AGDQ 2026 has raised a staggering $2,443,414 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This organization focuses on the vital work of early cancer detection and prevention. Think about that for a second – over two million dollars raised simply by people playing video games incredibly fast. It's truly inspiring.
What makes AGDQ so special isn't just the charitable aspect, though; it's the sheer skill and entertainment on display. The speedruns are a fascinating blend of technical mastery, glitch exploitation, and sheer dedication. It's like watching an artist at work, but instead of a paintbrush, their tool is a controller (or sometimes, no controller at all!).
This year's highlights included some truly mind-bending performances. Apparently the Mario Kart World's Free Roam mode saw some record breaking glitch exploitation. A 70-player relay race of Super Mario 64 where each person collects a single star? Brilliant! If you're looking for individual runs to watch, I'm hearing great things about the Hollow Knight: Silksong run (which, let's be honest, is a surprise given the game's release status), the five-minute Chrono Trigger Speedrun sounds intense, and the Pokemon Emerald run is apparently an epic showcase of routing and execution. I know I'll be checking those out later.
Games Done Quick has now donated over $28 million to the Prevent Cancer Foundation alone. Across all their events, they've raised around $59 million for charity. That's a serious impact, and it shows the incredible potential of the gaming community to do good. You can find the full schedule of runs on the Games Done Quick subreddit. Trust me, it's worth a look to see some truly awe-inspiring gameplay.
If you missed AGDQ 2026, don't worry! The next major charity stream, Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ), is scheduled for July 5-11. And mark your calendars, because AGDQ 2027 is already confirmed to be held in Atlanta from January 3-9. I can't wait to see what incredible feats (and charitable donations) they achieve next year!
