HBO Max SHOCKWAVE! Will This Amazon Deal Change EVERYTHING?!
Movies & TV Series 13 January 2026

HBO Max just got a whole lot bigger. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) officially launched its streaming service in eight new European countries this morning, marking a major milestone in its global expansion. Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Israel, and Greece are now part of the HBO Max family, pushing the platform's reach to over 100 territories globally. That's pretty impressive, to be honest.

What's particularly interesting is the deal WBD struck with Amazon. In Germany, Austria, and Italy, HBO Max will be accessible through Prime Video Channels. This is a smart move; it leverages Amazon's already massive infrastructure and existing customer base, making it easier for potential subscribers to access the service. It cuts through the clutter of needing another app and another login. I've certainly appreciated the convenience of Prime Video Channels for other services.

So, what can viewers in these new markets expect? Well, a whole lot of good stuff, apparently. The press release is touting Paul Thomas Anderson’s *One Battle After Another* (an Oscar contender, no less), and anticipation is building for the *Game of Thrones* prequel, *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, which is slated to drop on January 19. That alone should draw in a fair few subscribers.

But it's not just about the big-name releases. The Italian market will finally get its hands on *Industry*, which has already garnered a strong following elsewhere. And Germany will see the debut of *The Pitt* before its second season airs. Plus, the hockey drama *Heated Rivalry* will be an exclusive launch in all the new territories. A little something for everyone, it seems.

“It is exciting to kick off the New Year by expanding into some of the biggest economies in the world, as we continue to deliver HBO Max to new viewers," said JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming & Games at WBD, in a statement. "Fans in these markets have a lot to look forward to, with some incredible titles and events coming to the platform." He’s not wrong; the content slate looks pretty robust.

Perrette also mentioned that the UK and Ireland are next on the list, with a launch scheduled for late March. Once that happens, the platform’s European rollout will be pretty much complete. This aggressive expansion shows that WBD is serious about competing in the increasingly crowded streaming landscape. It will be interesting to see how these new markets respond and whether this Prime Video partnership proves to be a winning strategy. Only time will tell, but it's certainly a space worth watching.
