Jay Park's SHOCKING K-Pop Confession! Can LNGSHOT Save Romance?!
Current Affairs 13 January 2026

K-pop, as a genre, is constantly evolving, a swirling vortex of trends and sounds. But R&B artist Jay Park thinks something's been lost in the mix: that good old romantic spirit. And he's launching LNGSHOT, his new four-member boy band, as a potential antidote.

Jay Park's SHOCKING K-Pop Confession! Can LNGSHOT ...

LNGSHOT, which stands for "long shot," debuted this week with their mini-album "SHOT CALLERS," a project spearheaded by Park's More Vision label. The band itself – comprised of Ohyul, Ryul, Woojin, and Louis – seems keenly aware of the expectations (and pressure) that come with being a Jay Park-backed act.

I have to admit, the name "LNGSHOT" initially made me raise an eyebrow. It's definitely...different. Woojin even admitted the same, noting that it felt strange at first. But, as he explained at their debut showcase at MyungHwa Live Hall in Seoul, the name grew on him, encapsulating the group's vision of a risky, game-changing play. It's a bold statement, and now they have to live up to it.

The album "SHOT CALLERS" is heavily influenced by hip-hop and R&B, unsurprisingly given Park's musical background. It's a five-track offering, featuring the lead single "Moonwalkin'" alongside B-sides like "Saucin'," "Backseat," "FaceTime," and "Never Let Go." Woojin highlighted the significance of "Moonwalkin'," linking it to Michael Jackson's iconic move and calling it the genesis of the entire LNGSHOT project.

Park himself seems to be positioning LNGSHOT as a contrast to the more corporate-driven aspects of idol production. He emphasized that his priority is pursuing what he loves and earning respect through that, rather than simply following trends. “For me, romanticism still exists, and that was the foundation,” he stated.

While acknowledging the benefits of having Jay Park as their CEO, the members of LNGSHOT are clearly eager to establish their own identity. "We can’t deny that we’ve been given great opportunities and a strong environment thanks to our CEO," Woojin said, "But we will work hard until the day we are known simply as LNGSHOT.”

Woojin also spoke about the importance of authenticity, a lesson he's learned from Park himself. "I learned from our CEO that sincerity means staying true to what you love and not being shaken by what others say," he explained. It's a sentiment that resonates, and it will be interesting to see how LNGSHOT navigates the ever-changing landscape of K-pop while staying true to their own vision. Only time will tell if they truly are a "long shot" that pays off, but they've definitely got my attention.
