‘Did his wife sock him again?’: Why Emmanuel Macron wore sunglasses at Davos
Macron's Davos Sunglasses: Battered Wife? Shocking...
Davos, Switzerland – Amidst the usual flurry of power suits and economic pronouncements at the World Economic Forum in Davos, French President Emmanuel Macron managed to cause a stir, and it wasn’t because of his economic policies. It was his sunglasses. Yes, you read that right. Macron delivered a speech to a room full of global leaders while sporting reflective aviator sunglasses, a move that sent the internet into a frenzy of speculation.
The images, of course, went viral faster than you can say "global economy." Was it a calculated power move? A subtle dig at someone in the room, perhaps Donald Trump? Or, as some jokingly suggested, was it an attempt to conceal the evidence of a late night enjoying the Swiss Alps a little too much? The rumor mill was working overtime, and, naturally, social media had a field day.
The Élysee Palace, however, quickly stepped in to pour cold water on the conspiracy theories. According to them, there was nothing political or particularly cool about the eyewear. Macron himself addressed the issue with his characteristic efficiency, apologizing for the sunglasses and explaining he had a "mild eye condition," according to reports. Later, French media clarified that a burst blood vessel was the real reason behind the shades – a far less exciting explanation than most had hoped for, I imagine.
But of course, a simple explanation wasn’t enough to quell the online chatter. Social media users, ever eager to troll, ran wild with the story. One user on X (formerly Twitter) called Macron "a pillock" for wearing sunglasses during the speech. The theories kept coming. "Macron is wearing sunglasses in Davos. Did his wife sock him again?" one user quipped, referencing rumors about his relationship with Brigitte Macron, his wife. Podcaster Candace Owens joined the fray, adding fuel to the fire with a post suggesting that Brigitte might have been responsible for the "burst eye vessel." It’s amazing how quickly a minor health issue can turn into international gossip!
Another user, not missing a beat, took aim at a perceived fashion misstep, snarking about Macron responding to President Trump while wearing "gas station sunglasses." So there you have it. A burst blood vessel, a pair of sunglasses, and a whole lot of online speculation. It just goes to show, even in the serious world of global economics, sometimes it’s the small things that grab the biggest headlines. And let's be honest, a little bit of drama never hurt anyone... except maybe Macron's eye.
