NCAA Bracket SHOCKER! Duke's HUGE Leap – What About YOUR Team?!
Sports 21 January 2026

Alright college hoops fans, buckle up. Bracketology season is officially in full swing, and everyone's favorite bracket guru, Mike DeCourcy over at FOX Sports, has dropped his latest NCAA Tournament projections. And let me tell you, there are some significant shifts that are definitely worth a closer look.

NCAA Bracket SHOCKER! Duke's HUGE Leap – What Abou...

The biggest news, without a doubt, is Duke’s leap to a No. 1 seed. Yes, the Blue Devils are back on top, joining UConn, Nebraska, and Arizona as the teams DeCourcy currently sees perched at the very top of the bracket. It's interesting to see Duke back in this position, especially considering the early season questions some analysts had about their consistency. Arizona and Nebraska, holding strong as the only undefeated teams from major conferences, are proving that consistent performance really does matter.

But the real drama, as always, is in the chase. Behind those top seeds, we have a dogfight for the No. 2 line. Michigan, Iowa State, Houston, and Purdue are currently holding those coveted spots. And speaking of Houston, Kelvin Sampson's squad is gearing up for a potentially epic clash against Texas Tech this Saturday. DeCourcy has Texas Tech as a No. 3 seed, so this Big 12 showdown is shaping up to be a true test of strength for both teams. These are the kinds of games that really solidify a team's standing in the eyes of the selection committee.

Now, let's talk bubble teams. This is where things get *really* interesting. According to DeCourcy, Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and Stanford are clinging to those last few spots in the projected field. On the other side of the coin, Virginia Tech, New Mexico, Cal, and North Carolina State are the first four teams currently sitting just outside the bubble. Ouch. For these teams, every game from now on is essentially a must-win situation. The pressure cooker is on!

Of course, it’s important to remember that we're still a good ways away from Selection Sunday. A *lot* can (and will) change. One bad week, one key injury, and everything can get flipped on its head. But DeCourcy's projections, released as of January 20th, offer a really valuable snapshot of where things stand right now. It gives us a good sense of which teams are trending up, which are sliding down, and which are frantically trying to build the resumes they’ll need to hear their names called in March. So, keep your eyes peeled and get ready for some serious bracket madness!
