Alright, comic book fans, brace yourselves! Amazon Prime Video just dropped a bombshell – or rather, a series of bombshell images – from the upcoming fourth season of "Invincible." And let me tell you, things are about to get real.
Invincible Season 4: Thragg's Debut Will SHOCK You...
We're talking first glimpses of the mayhem and, more importantly, our first proper look at Lee Pace as Grand Regent Thragg. I've been waiting for this guy since I devoured the comics, and let me tell you, Pace has the gravitas to pull off the Viltrumite powerhouse. The image we got is suitably ominous – Thragg gliding through space, shrouded in shadow, promising a world of hurt for Mark Grayson and, frankly, the entire planet. If you're not familiar with the source material, trust me, Thragg is *not* messing around. He's basically Viltrum's equivalent of Captain America, but…evil. Super evil.
But Thragg isn't the only thing to get hyped about. The released images also showcase Mark, bruised and battered as always (seriously, does this kid ever get a break?), along with the returning gang – Omni-Man, Allen the Alien (looking buffer than ever), and Shapesmith. It's good to see the team (mostly) back together. And speaking of returning characters, it looks like Dinosaurus is back to cause trouble for Mark. Their dynamic in the comics was always interesting, a sort of warped mirror of Mark's own struggle with power and responsibility. Should be good.
Adding even more fuel to the fire, we get a glimpse of Danai Gurira as Universa, who, judging by one particularly brutal image, is about to have a very bad day courtesy of Atom Eve. Ouch. Gurira is a fantastic addition to an already ridiculously talented voice cast, and I'm eager to see what she brings to the role. The core cast is, of course, all returning - Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Walton Goggins, and Gillian Jacobs, all stellar as Mark, Nolan, Cecil, and Eve respectively. I've always admired the animation style, and it's great to see it elevated season after season.
Overall, these images are doing exactly what they're supposed to do: get us hyped. We've got returning heroes, menacing villains, and what looks like a whole lot of intergalactic punching. March can't come soon enough. And if this is just a taste of what Season 4 has in store, "Invincible" is about to cement its place as one of the best superhero adaptations of all time. Just try not to get too attached to anyone. You know how Robert Kirkman rolls.
