Well, folks, looks like Disney+ UK is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Deadline is reporting that they're developing a new drama series called "At Home in Nevada," and the premise alone has me intrigued. We're talking about a caper drama, the kind that can be either brilliantly clever or hilariously disastrous – and I'm here for both.
New Disney+ Drama: 'Fool Me Once' Writer's Shockin...
The writer behind this project is Danny Brocklehurst, a name that should ring a bell for anyone who binged Netflix's "Fool Me Once." That show was a rollercoaster, and the fact that Brocklehurst is at the helm here suggests that "At Home in Nevada" is going to be anything but predictable. I mean, this is a guy who also worked on "Brassic" and "Lazarus," so he's clearly got range. That's a good sign.
The plot, as unveiled by Deadline, is pretty wild. A guy who's obsessed with gangster movies goes to a crime convention in Nevada (already sounds like a recipe for chaos, right?), and somehow gets mistaken for a mafia kingpin. I can already picture the awkward situations, the near-misses, and the desperate attempts to keep up the charade. It's like "Analyze This" meets... well, Nevada. I love it. It's got a slightly Coen Brothers feel to it, doesn't it? I just hope they nail the tone.
Disney+ UK has been making some serious moves lately, trying to cement its place in the streaming wars. They've already got a bunch of other high-profile dramas in the works, including "Mosquito" with Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones, and "Alice and Steve" with Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement. Plus, they're doing a second season of that "Rivals" adaptation, which I hear is quite the guilty pleasure. Sounds like Angela Jain and her team are cooking up some exciting stuff.
And it doesn't stop there. Just last week, they announced a first-look deal with Stephen Graham's production company. That's a smart move. Graham is a force, both as an actor and, apparently, as a producer. He brings a certain gritty realism to everything he touches, and I'm curious to see what Adolescence (his production company, not a medical condition, haha) brings to the table for Disney+.
So, "At Home in Nevada" is definitely one to watch. The premise is solid, the writer is proven, and Disney+ UK seems to be putting all the pieces in place for a real run at the streaming crown. Now, all we need is a release date. As soon as I have one, you'll be the first to know. Until then, keep those inboxes happy!
