Psychonauts Studio's New Game is...Pottery?! You Won't Believe This!
Gaming News 22 January 2026

Double Fine, those delightfully odd folks behind the Psychonauts series, are at it again. Just when you think you've got them figured out, they pull something completely unexpected out of the clay… or, in this case, *Kiln*. Yes, you read that right. Kiln.

Psychonauts Studio's New Game is...Pottery?! You W...

Fresh from last year's more subdued, but still charming, lighthouse adventure *Keeper*, the studio has announced their newest project: a pottery-themed party brawler. It sounds bizarre, and honestly, it probably is. But coming from Double Fine, that's a good thing. Get ready to get your hands dirty (virtually, of course) this spring, as *Kiln* is heading to Xbox Series X/S, PC (and Game Pass, naturally), and PS5.

So, what exactly *is* *Kiln*? Well, you play as tiny spirits. Your main objective? Crafting a pot. From scratch. Before inhabiting it. Think of it as spiritual pottery class meets demolition derby. Double Fine promises an "easy and accessible" control scheme, which is reassuring, because the last thing anyone needs is to struggle with virtual clay molding. The real twist? The shape and size of your pot directly influences your abilities in the team-based multiplayer battles.

Apparently, pot size matters. There are three weight classes: small pots are speedy, large pots are powerful, and medium pots offer a balanced approach. Eight distinct shapes – bottles, cups, bowls, and more – each come with unique special moves, basic attacks, and even air attacks! Cylinders can unleash hammer-style ground slams, while plates can pull off trick shots and ricochet off enemies. The sheer absurdity of it all is genuinely appealing.

Before you head into battle, you get to personalize your pot. We're talking glazes, patterns, stickers, even handles! Then, you can hang out in The Wedge, a social hub, and strategize (or just show off your pottery skills) between matches. When it's time to rumble, you'll be battling it out in various modes and obstacle-laden maps inspired by ancient Greek and Egyptian deities. I'm picturing a lot of broken pottery and hilarious moments.

At launch, the main mode will be "Quench," a 4v4 mode where you're tasked with extinguishing the opposing team's kiln while protecting your own. The size of your pot matters here, too, impacting your water-holding capacity, balanced against your overall health. It's a classic risk/reward scenario, and I'm already envisioning some frantic gameplay. This game is set to launch this spring on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (including Steam), and Game Pass. I, for one, am strangely excited to see how this claymation chaos unfolds.
