Samsunspor are desperate for a win. Six games without one in the Trendyol Süper Lig is a streak that's weighing heavily on the team, and tomorrow's home match against Kocaelispor is being viewed as absolutely vital to turn things around. I’ve been following Samsunspor for years, and the atmosphere in the city is tense. The fans are passionate, and expectations are always high.
Samsunspor Desperate! Can They Snatch Victory From...
Their last taste of Süper Lig victory feels like a lifetime ago – November 9th, 2025, when they edged out Eyüpspor 1-0. Since then, it’s been a frustrating mix of draws and defeats against some tough opponents: Beşiktaş, Alanyaspor, Galatasaray, Başakşehir, Göztepe, and Gençlerbirliği. A single win in those fixtures would have made a huge difference in the standings, but here we are.
The clash with Kocaelispor, set for a 5:00 PM kickoff at the 19 Mayıs Stadium, is more than just another game; it's a chance to silence the critics and inject some much-needed confidence back into the squad. However, the path to victory isn't going to be easy. Coach Hüseyin Eroğlu has a significant injury crisis to contend with.
The injury list is a worry, to put it mildly. Bedirhan Çetin, Rick van Drongelen, Afonso Sousa, Emre Kılınç, and Tanguy Coulibaly are all expected to be sidelined, dealing a blow to team selection. Carlo Holse, who missed the previous match due to illness, is still a doubt, making it a game-time decision. That’s a significant chunk of the starting eleven potentially missing, and it forces the coach to get creative.
There is some good news, though! The January transfer window has brought some fresh faces into the mix. New signings İrfan Can Eğribayat, Eliyas Tavsan, Yalçın Kayan, and Jaurs Assoumou are all available for selection. Whether they'll be thrown straight into the starting lineup remains to be seen, but their presence certainly provides Eroğlu with some much-needed options and a potential spark of new energy. I'm particularly interested to see how Tavsan performs; he's been highly rated.
Looking at the league table, the stakes are clear. After 18 games, Samsunspor sits in 7th place with 26 points, while Kocaelispor are just behind in 9th with 23 points. A win for Samsunspor would solidify their position in the top half of the table and provide a much-needed boost. A loss, however, would see Kocaelispor breathing down their necks and further fuel the current sense of unease. It's going to be a tense affair, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
