Iconic Sailboat Returns! But Why Are Crowds Stunned?
Current Affairs 23 January 2026

Torrevieja residents, get ready to climb aboard! The historic Pascual Flores schooner, a real piece of the town's maritime heritage, has returned to port after a European tour and is now open for public visits. That's right, you can actually step onto this beautifully restored vessel and imagine life as a sailor from a bygone era.

Iconic Sailboat Returns! But Why Are Crowds Stunne...

Docked at Marina Salinas, one of the Costa Blanca's most bustling marinas, the Pascual Flores isn't just any old boat. Dating all the way back to 1917, this pailebote is a floating museum, a tangible connection to Torrevieja's deep-rooted seafaring past. I remember as a kid, my grandfather telling me stories of the ships that used to frequent these waters – it’s pretty special to see one so well-preserved and accessible.

Following extensive restoration in Huelva, the ship has been transformed into an educational exhibition. Think of it as a history lesson you can actually walk through! The Torrevieja Municipal Institute of Culture is even organizing tours for schoolchildren, ensuring that the younger generation understands the importance of this vessel and the role it played in the town's economic development.

Back in its heyday, the Pascual Flores was a workhorse, ferrying fruit, salt, and other essential goods across the Mediterranean and along the coasts of North and West Africa. It's fascinating to think about the journeys it undertook, the storms it weathered, and the lives it touched. The ship changed hands and even ended up in England before the Torrevieja Town Council acquired it in 1999. A comprehensive restoration, overseen by master caulker Antonio Carrasco between 2005 and 2008, brought the ship back to its former glory.

But the story doesn't end there. After some time, the Torrevieja Town Council partnered with the Nao Victoria Foundation to further repair and refurbish the schooner. Now, the Pascual Flores isn't just sitting pretty; it's sailing the world, acting as an ambassador for Torrevieja and its maritime traditions. It's a pretty impressive feat, really, to see a piece of our local history showcased on the international stage.

If you're interested in taking a tour, the Pascual Flores will be open to the public at Marina Salinas until February 1st. Tours run from Thursday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and tickets are just €5. It's a small price to pay for a chance to connect with the past and experience a slice of Torrevieja's maritime soul. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity!
