Minneapolis Shooting: Feds Kill Again! Will Justice Be Served?

Minneapolis Shooting: Feds Kill Again! Will Justice Be Served?
Current Affairs 24 January 2026

**Minneapolis** – Tensions are boiling over in Minneapolis after federal immigration agents fatally shot another man on Saturday, marking the second such incident in the city in just under three weeks. The already strained relationship between the community and federal law enforcement is now stretched to the breaking point, with renewed protests and scathing criticism coming from all corners of the state.

Minneapolis Shooting: Feds Kill Again! Will Justic...

The shooting occurred less than three weeks after the death of Renee Good, a U.S. citizen, who was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer during what many are calling a heavy-handed operation targeting undocumented migrants. The timing couldn't be worse, and the outrage is palpable.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), their officers were acting in self-defense while pursuing "an illegal alien wanted for violent assault" during a "targeted operation." It's the same justification we heard after the Good shooting, and frankly, the public isn't buying it this time either.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz didn't mince words, calling the shooting "horrific" and demanding that state authorities take the lead on the investigation. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara described the scene as "incredibly volatile" and understandably urged residents to steer clear of the area. Initial reports suggest the victim was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry, further complicating the narrative.

As word spread, demonstrators flooded the streets, and what started as a protest quickly escalated. Officers declared the gathering an unlawful assembly and deployed tear gas, a move that only seemed to inflame the situation. Protesters, fueled by anger and frustration, erected makeshift barricades using dumpsters in the heart of south Minneapolis, a neighborhood known for its vibrant restaurant scene.

DHS, in a statement on X, claimed that "an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun" and that the officers attempted to disarm him, alleging he "violently resisted." "Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene," the statement continued. However, Police Chief O'Hara's statements contradict the narrative DHS has put forth, leading to a great deal of mistrust.

Governor Walz has already spoken with the White House about what he called "another horrific shooting by federal agents." "Minnesota has had it. This is sickening," he posted on X. "The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now." It's a strong statement, and it reflects the growing sentiment here that the federal government is overstepping its bounds.

The deployment of thousands of ICE agents to Minneapolis, a Democratic-led city, as part of the Trump administration's broader campaign to deport undocumented migrants has been a powder keg waiting to explode. And with the recent outrage fueled by the detention of a five-year-old boy this week during an attempt to arrest his father, it seems the fuse has finally been lit.
