Great Composers Fest: SHOCK Venue Change for 2026!
Current Affairs 24 January 2026

The Great Composers Festival, a staple of the Costa Blanca South’s cultural calendar, is expanding its reach in 2026, adding Torrevieja as a new venue. This is great news for Classical music lovers – and, frankly, anyone looking for a sophisticated night out. Now in its third year, the festival already draws crowds to Elche, Alicante, and Orihuela. But the addition of Torrevieja really cements its position as a major player in the Valencian Community's arts scene.

Great Composers Fest: SHOCK Venue Change for 2026!

Scheduled to kick off in April 2026, the festival will pay homage to the legendary Giacomo Puccini. Get ready for some serious Italian drama! The highlight? A large-scale production of "Turandot," featuring a whopping 150 performers. This isn’t just a concert; it's an experience designed to introduce opera and Classical music to a wider audience.

José Manuel Ramón, the driving force behind the festival as its composer and director, is clearly thrilled with the expansion. "It is a pleasure to see how more and more municipalities are joining the project and how the festival continues to grow and generate interest," he said. You can practically hear the excitement in his voice, and rightly so. It's not easy building a festival from the ground up, so this is a real testament to the quality of the event.

Torrevieja's local government is also understandably happy. The festival promises to boost the town's profile as a cultural hub, attracting tourists and enriching the lives of locals. Think about it: world-class music, beautiful scenery, and maybe a glass of local wine afterwards. What’s not to love?

According to Torrevieja’s Councillor for Culture, José Antonio Quesada, the show is "fantastic.” That’s a pretty ringing endorsement, coming from someone whose job it is to assess the cultural landscape. And honestly, judging from the buzz around town, he's not exaggerating.

Orihuela, one of the festival's established locations, is also buzzing with anticipation. Representatives have highlighted the unique opportunity the festival provides to experience the art of opera. Mark your calendars: Orihuela’s performance is scheduled for April 19, 2026, at the Teatro Circo. I, for one, am already looking forward to seeing what they have in store. It's always a highlight of the spring season.
