Title: TRAM d’Alacant Facilitates Mobility for 19 Million Passengers in 2025

Alicante's light rail system, TRAM d’Alacant, played a crucial role in connecting communities across the region in 2025, transporting a staggering 19,015,836 passengers. This figure encompasses travel across its four tram lines, a TRAM-train line, and a suburban rail line, demonstrating the network's extensive reach and vital service it provides.

Looking at the bigger picture, when combined with Valencia's Metrovalencia (which carried 91,640,139 passengers), the entire Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) network facilitated an impressive 110,655,975 journeys last year. That’s a whole lot of people moving about! It really highlights the importance of public transportation in the Valencian Community.

However, it's worth noting that these numbers represent a 6.5% dip in ridership compared to 2024, which saw over 20 million passengers utilize the TRAM d'Alacant network. So what happened? According to FGV Managing Director Alfonso Novo, "In 2025, we once again achieved a strong passenger result, the second-best in TRAM d’Alacant’s history, which was affected, among other possible factors, by works carried out on the section between Hospital and Benidorm that required temporary interruptions of rail services at various times.” Makes sense – service disruptions always impact ridership, even if temporarily.

Despite the overall decrease, there were some bright spots. Novo pointed out that Line 9, which runs between Benidorm and Denia, experienced growth of over 19% compared to the previous year. This surge in popularity likely stems from the line's full opening on January 28, 2025, finally providing a seamless connection between these two popular destinations. I remember the buzz around that opening; it was a long time coming and clearly made a difference.

Interestingly, June emerged as the peak month for ridership, with nearly two million passengers taking advantage of the TRAM d'Alacant network. Novo attributed this surge to the Fogueres festival, a major event in Alicante's calendar. He also highlighted that Luceros station served as the primary hub for TRAM users and that Line 2 was the most heavily used. Looking at the full year, after June's peak, July, May, April, and August all saw consistently high numbers, indicating a strong reliance on the TRAM during the warmer months.

In terms of daily usage, the TRAM d’Alacant network averaged 52,098 passengers, translating to a monthly average of 1,584,653 trips throughout 2025. While the slight decrease from the previous year is something to consider, these figures still paint a picture of a vital and well-used public transportation system that plays a key role in the lives of residents and visitors alike.
