Political Thriller 'Keep Her Quiet': Shocking Secrets Revealed!
Movies & TV Series 27 January 2026

Berlin is buzzing with the start of the European Film Market (EFM), and one project already making waves is the Political thriller "Keep Her Quiet." Beta Cinema has snagged the international sales rights, signaling a strong belief in the film's potential. The cast is certainly a draw, featuring Zar Amir (fresh off her critically acclaimed role in "Holy Spider"), the always-compelling Jonathan Pryce, and rising star Amir El-Masry, recently seen in "Giant." What really grabbed my attention, however, is the film's subject matter.

Political Thriller 'Keep Her Quiet': Shocking Secr...

Amir plays a Washington D.C. journalist who stumbles upon a series of unexplained disappearances in Western China. As she digs deeper, her investigation pulls her and her family into a vortex of danger. The film’s inspiration from true stories of journalists and survivor accounts of China’s "re-education" program in Xinjiang promises a gripping, and potentially uncomfortable, viewing experience. It’s a subject that deserves wider attention, and a well-made thriller could be a powerful way to achieve that.

The director, Franz Böhm, isn't exactly a household name yet, but he's definitely one to watch. He snagged a BAFTA in 2025 for his short film "Rock Paper Scissors," which tackled the Ukraine War. While it didn't ultimately secure an Oscar nomination, the BAFTA win speaks volumes about his talent. "Keep Her Quiet" is only his second feature, but the subject matter and the calibre of the cast suggest he's aiming high. The inclusion of Uyghur actress Bahargul Basco also hints at a commitment to authenticity. It’s those little details that often elevate a film from good to great.

Behind the scenes, the production team is a veritable who's who of European cinema. Johannes Schubert, whose Schubert production company is behind Berlinale Competition title "Rose" and Jessica Hausner's "Club Zero," is producing. He's joined by heavy hitters from Switzerland, Sweden, and Austria. And with executive producers like Malte Grunert (known for "Land of Mine") and Anita Gou ("The Farewell"), the film has a strong pedigree. Schubert himself described the film as a combination of "creative authenticity with escalating urgency," calling it a "classic high-stakes Political thriller." It’s a bold statement, but the ingredients are certainly there.

Currently in post-production, "Keep Her Quiet" has already secured distribution deals in German-speaking territories. With Pandora Film, Filmladen Filmverleih, and Filmcoopi already on board, it seems the film’s message is resonating with distributors. Beta Cinema launching international sales at the EFM is the next crucial step. Given the film's timely and important subject matter, combined with a strong cast and experienced production team, "Keep Her Quiet" is definitely one to keep an eye on during this year’s Berlinale. I'm personally eager to see how it's received and, more importantly, what impact it has.
