Monster Hunter Wilds: STUNNING PC Performance Boost Revealed!
Gaming News 28 January 2026

Okay, so Monster Hunter Wilds hasn't exactly had the smoothest launch on PC, has it? Despite being a fantastic game – and selling a massive 11 million copies, which is nothing to sneeze at – its PC optimization has been a bit of a sore spot. Capcom has been chipping away at the technical gremlins, though, promising ongoing improvements.

Monster Hunter Wilds: STUNNING PC Performance Boos...

And now, with January almost done and dusted – and the game's first anniversary looming – they've dropped a Steam-exclusive patch. This isn't just some minor tweak; Capcom is calling it the second phase of their performance overhaul, something they teased back in late 2025. It's all about making the game run better, plain and simple.

So, what's under the hood? Well, the big focus is on CPU and GPU load. Apparently, they've managed to reduce CPU usage during general gameplay, which is a massive win, especially if you've been seeing your processor pinned at 100%. They've also tweaked texture streaming to be less demanding on VRAM. This is HUGE for people with older or less powerful graphics cards. Plus, they've reworked the High-Resolution Texture Pack (it's optional, thankfully), meaning it takes up less VRAM and storage. Nice!

There's also a bunch of new graphics settings to play around with, which is always appreciated. The resource-hogging Volumetric Fog setting now has three lower options – "Low", "Medium", and "High" – before they renamed the original "High" to "Highest". Finally, some options to tweak!

Early reports are pretty positive. People are seeing significant performance gains, especially in demanding areas. I've seen figures showing FPS boosts of up to 20 in places like the Windward Plains main camp and the Scarlet Forest. That's the kind of improvement that can make a real difference to the gameplay experience. Reportedly, if you've got a decent rig, you can now consistently hit over 60 FPS in those zones without even needing Frame Generation turned on. That's a far cry from the stuttery sub-60 FPS mess some were experiencing before.

Of course, it's still the RE Engine powering the game, and it seems some limitations in open-world environments – a problem we also saw in Dragon's Dogma 2 – are still present. However, this patch feels like a definite step in the right direction. The game feels smoother, and the stuttering seems to have been reduced, which is fantastic. It will be interesting to see how this PC patch affects speculation that Monster Hunter Wilds might be headed to the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. And let's not forget the possibility of a major expansion down the line, after they finish rolling out the free endgame content. Console players, for now, are unaffected, but it's always possible these improvements will eventually find their way over.
