Alright, Tarnished, gather 'round! Looks like we're getting another dose of the Lands Between, but this time we're trading digital controllers for dice. Group SNE, the folks who bravely tackled the terrifying task of turning Dark Souls and Elden Ring into tabletop role-playing games, are at it again. This time, they're setting their sights on Elden Ring: Nightreign. Yes, you heard that right – Nightreign is becoming a TTRPG.
Elden Ring Goes Tabletop! Brace Yourselves, Tarnis...
Now, for those unfamiliar, Nightreign is that whole separate experience within Elden Ring, accessed through the DLC. It adds a whole new layer of lore and challenge, which, honestly, feels almost perfectly suited for a tabletop adaptation. Think about it: exploring new dungeons, battling even *more* grotesque monsters, and crafting epic stories with your friends...it's practically begging to be rolled for!
Here's the catch, and it's a big one: a preview of the Nightreign campaign is scheduled to appear in GM Warlock magazine. Great, right? Well, only if you happen to read Japanese. As it stands, access is severely limited, and the fate of an English localization hangs precariously in the balance. We can only cross our fingers and hope that Group SNE recognizes the massive potential audience for this in the West. I mean, let's be real, who *wouldn't* want to fumble through the Nightreign content with their buddies on a Saturday night?
For those unfamiliar with Group SNE, they're no strangers to the tabletop scene. Beyond their FromSoftware adaptations, they've got a pretty impressive resume, spanning everything from sprawling tabletop campaigns to card games and light novels. They even worked on the Record of Lodoss War campaign setting. Perhaps most notably, they're responsible for Sword World RPG, a tabletop game that's been a huge hit in Japan since way back in 1989. So, yeah, they know what they're doing.
Look, I'm cautiously optimistic. We’ve seen how well FromSoftware's worlds translate to the tabletop before. The Dark Souls RPG, despite its... *ahem*... challenging ruleset, captured the essence of the game beautifully. The Elden Ring RPG has been similarly lauded. And frankly, the idea of crafting my own Tarnished, venturing into Nightreign, and facing down Miquella with a well-placed critical hit? That's just too good to pass up. Let's just hope someone over at Group SNE is listening and starts working on that English translation pronto. We’re waiting, and our dice are ready.
