Standing alongside Representative Ayanna Pressley and other local officials, she didn't mince words, pointing directly at the former president's relentless attacks as the root cause.

"The president’s rhetoric, the attacks from him since I’ve gotten into public office has always been to stop me from being in public service," Omar declared. "To intimidate me, to make me want to quit. And my only message is it hasn’t worked thus far and it’s not going to work in the future.” You could feel the defiance in her voice, a clear message to her detractors.

Omar went on to detail the disturbing escalation of threats she’s faced since being elected. “I became a freshman who nobody should have actually known I existed because I wielded no power to having the most death threats of any member of Congress,” she explained. Following Tuesday’s incident, Omar requested increased security from House Speaker Mike Johnson, a request that was quickly granted. The attack occurred while Omar was publicly calling for the resignation of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, a key player in the White House's immigration policies. Showing remarkable composure, Omar confronted her attacker after he was apprehended by her security team, and despite advice to the contrary, insisted on finishing her speech. This community, which began arriving in Minnesota in the 1990s as refugees fleeing civil war, deserves better than to be scapegoated for political gain.
