Global Korea Awards Recognize Young Leaders Shaping the Future
Seoul, South Korea – The Korea Times has announced the winners of the 14th annual Global Korea Awards, celebrating exceptional students who demonstrate a commitment to global perspectives and leadership. This year's grand prize was awarded to Selma Naciri, a student at Bosung Girls’ High School, recognizing her unique background and dedication to international affairs.

Naciri, the daughter of a Moroccan father who later became a naturalized Korean citizen and a Korean mother, has leveraged her multicultural heritage to develop a profound understanding of diverse cultures and languages. Her fluency in Arabic, among other languages, reflects a deep-seated curiosity and a desire to bridge cultural divides. With aspirations of a career in diplomacy, Naciri has actively participated in her school’s Model United Nations program, honing her skills in international relations and global problem-solving. Minister of Gender Equality and Family Won Min-kyong will present Naciri with the prestigious grand prize.

Beyond the grand prize, The Korea Times recognized outstanding students across various educational levels. Myeong Soo-min from Geumsan Elementary School and Shrestha Mondal from Gwangnam Elementary School were honored for their achievements at the elementary level. At the middle school level, Kim Eun-woo from Jinsan Middle School and Ryu Seo-yeon from Lausanne Collegiate Incheon were recognized. The high school category saw Kim Hyun-jin from Kwangdong High School and Park Si-yeun from Hansung Science High School receive awards. Andrua Haque, a graduate student at Seoul National University, and Ju Ye-bom from Sogang University were celebrated for their accomplishments at the university level.
Several special awards further highlighted specific achievements. Song Jae-yeon from Gyeongan Girls’ Middle School received the National Council of Governors of Education Award, while Yoon Young-mee from Munkyung College was presented with the Special Jury Award. Park Ha-neul of Pyoseon High School earned the Semoon Chang Award for exceptional foreign language skills, and Chae Yu-jin from Gwangju Bongju Elementary School received the Korean Association for Multicultural Education Award. Finally, Bhatti Bethany Naome from Hwasu High School was awarded the University of Utah Asia Campus Award.
The awards ceremony will be held on November 27th at 4 p.m. at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. The Global Korea Awards continue to serve as a vital platform for recognizing and encouraging the next generation of global leaders, highlighting the importance of intercultural understanding and international engagement in shaping a more connected and collaborative world.
