Carrick Exposes Utd's Amorim Blunder! A Wasted Year After All?!
Sports 01 February 2026

Manchester United fans are buzzing after Benjamin Sesko's dramatic late goal secured a 3-2 victory against Fulham. You know, the kind of goal that makes you jump out of your seat and spill your beer everywhere. It felt like "Fergie Time" was back – pure, unadulterated Manchester United drama. But as the celebrations die down, a nagging question persists: Did the club waste an entire year under Ruben Amorim?

Carrick Exposes Utd's Amorim Blunder! A Wasted Yea...

Michael Carrick, now at the helm in his second stint as manager, seems to be quietly proving a point. His post-match comments were measured, praising Sesko and the team's spirit, but the underlying implication was clear. He knows this team is capable of more. And that's putting it mildly.

Remember that insane 5-4 Europa League win against Lyon last April? Two goals in the final minute of extra time. That's the kind of intensity United fans crave. Carrick, of course, has seen this kind of drama before. I still remember him being subbed on right before Michael Owen's winner against City back in '09. You just can't write that stuff.

"There's no better place than in front of the Stretford End – it just means more," Carrick said, capturing the raw emotion of the moment. "People leave here with more than just a United win. It adds layers through the connection and the emotion. That's why we all love it so much. When these moments come along, they're pretty special." Couldn't have said it better myself.

This win marks Carrick's third consecutive Premier League victory. That's right, *three* in a row. Contrast that with Amorim, who took a whopping 36 games to achieve the same feat, and only managed to string together consecutive wins once during his entire tenure. Ouch. Makes you wonder what could have been.

What's even more telling is United's ascent back into fourth place, a position Amorim *never* managed to achieve at the end of any match round. And let's not forget Carrick's overall record – four wins in five league games (including his first spell in 2021). These are hardly the numbers of a team that needs a complete overhaul.

While defensive issues still linger, Carrick's tactical tweaks, like shifting from a three-man to a four-man defense, seem to be paying dividends. More importantly, it's opened the door for Kobbie Mainoo to shine. Mainoo, practically invisible under Amorim, put in a stellar performance against Fulham. He was solid defensively and a threat in attack. It was a complete midfield masterclass.

"Kobbie's performance was very good today in so many ways," Carrick said, clearly impressed. "There was a lot of work for Kobbie and Casemiro to do in the middle of the pitch, especially without the ball, and I thought he was terrific." He's right, Mainoo was a revelation. "He understands what's needed and he comes up with moments of quality. It's what we have come to expect from him, but you forget how young he is. He's still got loads to come, but seeing him today, playing with that kind of confidence and belief, is..." The future looks bright, folks. The future looks bright.
