Mazarron is gearing up for a delicious return to tradition! The Fiesta de la Matanza, a beloved celebration of local flavors and community spirit, is back and promises a feast for the senses. Slated for Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at the Plaza Ramón y Cajal, this year's event looks to be bigger and better than ever.
Mazarron's Matanza: Tradition Returns - But What's...
Forget your January diets, folks. This is all about indulging in the rich, savory goodness of the region. Picture this: mountains of potatoes piled high with a medley of perfectly cooked meats and peppers, alongside staples like black pudding, white and red sausages, and crispy bacon. And that’s just the beginning! Barbecue pork and a giant paella will also be on offer, ensuring everyone gets their fill. Think of it as a delicious culinary hug.
It wouldn't be a true Fiesta without all the trimmings, right? Expect plenty of bread, refreshing oranges, and of course, something sweet to finish it all off. Word on the street is there will be a decadent chocolate cake for dessert. Personally, I'm already dreaming about that chocolate cake – dark, rich, and hopefully with a hint of local orange. I've been to a few Matanza festivals in the past, and the food is always a real highlight.
But the Fiesta de la Matanza is more than just a delicious meal; it’s a chance to give back. Following the feast, attendees can participate in a charity bingo game supporting the parish of Mazarron. It's a great way to enjoy some friendly competition and contribute to a worthy cause. Think of it: good food, good company, and a chance to win while supporting the local community. What could be better?
Tickets for the Fiesta are available after Sunday masses at the Parish of Mazarron. You can also find them through volunteers, Holy Week brotherhoods, and at the parish office on Friday, February 6th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Prices are €15 for adults and €10 for those under 18. So, mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and prepare for a day of food, fun, and community spirit in Mazarron. I, for one, will be there, ready to sample the culinary delights and try my luck at bingo!
