Bugatti just took "winter driving" to a whole new level. Forget your snow tires and all-wheel drive SUV; the iconic hypercar manufacturer unleashed a fleet of its most prized models onto the frozen lake of St. Moritz for the annual ICE (International Concours of Elegance) event. And from the looks of it, they weren't just there for show. They were *drifting*.
Bugatti Bolide SHOCKS St. Moritz! What Happened at...
It's easy to imagine these automotive masterpieces tucked away in climate-controlled garages, only seeing daylight on perfectly sunny days. But Bugatti apparently believes that even sub-zero temperatures shouldn't keep owners from experiencing the thrill of these machines. The ICE event, known for its unique blend of classic car appreciation and icy exhibitionism, provides a truly spectacular stage. And a newly released video shows just how wild it got.
The lineup was seriously impressive, showcasing Bugatti's legacy from vintage racers to modern marvels. We're talking about a miniature Type 35 (scaled down, but still awesome!), a sleek Type 51, and, get this, *three* Bolides. The contrast of these stunning cars against the stark white snow-covered course was something else. I mean, seriously, can you imagine the photo ops?
Seeing so many Bugattis in one place is rare enough. But what really stood out was how effortlessly the drivers seemed to handle these beasts in such tricky conditions. Sure, the Veyron and Bolide have all-wheel drive, but translating that much raw power (we're talking well over 1000 horsepower in some cases) onto a slippery, frozen lake is an engineering feat in itself. It's a testament to the brilliance of the French engineers at Bugatti. And, I have to admit, I shudder to think what those bespoke snow tires must have cost. Probably more than my entire car!
Picking a "winner" from that lineup is almost impossible. The driver of the EB110 deserves some serious respect, holding their own amongst the more flamboyant machinery and really capturing the spirit of its era. But for sheer audacity and cool factor? The award has to go to the crews who brought their classic, open-wheeled racers. Imagine the wind chill! Talk about dedication. Bugatti really knows how to put on a show, and this year's ICE appearance was definitely one for the books.
