Box Office SOS! "Iron Lung" Gasping for Air? Super Bowl Weekend Tumble!

Box Office SOS! "Iron Lung" Gasping for Air? Super Bowl Weekend Tumble!
Movies & TV Series 05 February 2026

Okay, folks, let's talk about the Box Office this Super Bowl weekend. It's historically a graveyard for new releases, and this year looks to be no exception. The big studios have largely wised up, figuring that spending millions on a Super Bowl ad when everyone's glued to the game (and chicken wings) just isn't the best bang for their buck these days. I remember when Super Bowl ads actually *worked* for movie launches – simpler times, maybe? Now, streaming and instant gratification have changed the game entirely.

Box Office SOS! "Iron Lung" Gasping for Air? Super...

Last year's Super Bowl weekend Box Office was pretty anemic, and 2024's was even worse. This year, we're looking at a battle between a couple of holdovers: "Send Help," the Sam Raimi-produced thriller, and Markiplier's "Iron Lung," which is making waves despite being an indie release. "Send Help" is expected to hold onto the top spot, but with a significant drop from its opening weekend. "Iron Lung," on the other hand, is proving to have some serious staying power. That said, "Send Help" pulled ahead earlier this week. It's a close one, and the final numbers will be interesting.

Challenging the incumbents is Angel Studios' "Solo Mio," a romantic comedy starring Kevin James. Now, I'm a sucker for a good rom-com, and this one has a fun premise: heartbroken groom, Roman holiday gone wrong, meddling locals... you get the picture. Angel Studios is hoping for a $5 million opening, and early buzz seems to be strongest with male viewers. Let's be honest, who doesn't like a good Kevin James movie?

And then there's Vertical Entertainment's "Dracula," Luc Besson's take on the classic Bram Stoker tale, starring Zoë Bleu, Caleb Landry Jones, and Christoph Waltz. This one’s already made a decent chunk of change internationally, and Vertical is hoping it surpasses their previous best opening. Reviews are reasonably positive, and they're clearly targeting women over 25. Honestly, a fresh take on Dracula with that cast? I'm intrigued. We'll see if it can break through the Super Bowl weekend slump. Previews are starting now, so get out there if you're interested! This weekend looks to be more of a slow burn than a blockbuster explosion. Perhaps a good opportunity to catch up on some streaming at home instead!
