Switch 2 SHOCK: Capcom's Graphics Prowess Stuns! Nintendo Ports REBORN?
Gaming News 05 February 2026

For years, the story with impressive games on Nintendo platforms, especially those from third-party developers, has often come with a 'but.' It's always been, "It looks great... *for a Nintendo platform*." We've all heard it, and frankly, we've often accepted it. But could that be changing?

Switch 2 SHOCK: Capcom's Graphics Prowess Stuns! N...

Having spent a good amount of time with pre-release demos of Resident Evil 9, I think I'm in a pretty good position to offer a comparison here. My journey with RE9 began back in June on a PS5, and I followed that up with more PS5 playtime in August. Then, in September, things got interesting: I got my hands on the Switch 2 version in handheld mode. And last month? A hefty three hours with a near-final build on the PS5. I was really putting it through its paces.

But recently, I finally got the chance to test the missing piece of the puzzle: the Switch 2 version docked and played on a TV. And this, my friends, is absolutely crucial. You see, a lot of Switch games tend to look a bit better in handheld mode. That smaller screen cleverly hides a lot of the technical compromises that have to be made. Take Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2, for example. I'd definitely recommend it, but *only* for playing in handheld. When you dock it and blow it up on a big screen TV, well, let's just say the imperfections become… glaringly obvious.

Which finally brings us back to Resident Evil 9 on the Switch 2. As I mentioned, I've experienced this game across a bunch of different platforms and configurations now. And here's the big takeaway: I would genuinely be happy to play the *entire* game on Switch 2, whether it's docked or in handheld mode. That's a pretty significant statement, even for me. I also had a chance to play Capcom's Pragmata and I felt the same way about that game as well.

This actually represents a bit of a shift in my own perspective. I'll admit it – I’m a bit of a visual snob. With a high-end PC as my primary gaming platform, Switch versions of graphically demanding games have typically been more of a novelty, or maybe a last resort for when I'm traveling. But seeing RE9 looking as solid as it did on the Switch 2, maintaining a comfortable frame rate – aiming for that sweet 60fps – just led me to a simple conclusion: I could happily play this as my main version. Maybe, just maybe, the era of compromised Switch ports is finally fading.
